I have had straight A's since freshman year but not in AP classes, just normal. I thought senior year would be the same but I've gotten my first F since middle school in Algebra 2. I've never been good at math, however, I've had great teachers and I think my school is okay and I do my homework and such. However, I do absolutely despise my teachers in math this year. Well, one is a student teacher and the other is my "real teacher". I'm not sure what's happening with me. I've done swell in Algebra 1 but I've fallen apart it seems this year. Is it the subject or the teacher? Have I lost a ton of brain cells and it's me who sucks? I'm not sure. Well, my grade is shattered. All A's except for math which I now have a D- in...

I'm not sure if I am going to college or if I'll "need" Algebra 2. I use math daily everyday but nothing exactly like f(g(x)) lol. I wanted to take accounting (however, my school only allowed me al2 or accounting and I made a bad choice I think) but I can't now...it's full. I've been in the class for a semester and I'm about to take my final which I assume I'll get a bad grade on... Should I tough it out for next semester? If I fail this semester, I don't think it would count at all...

Algebra 2 isn't required for my state. I have taken my three year math requirements already.

No you shouldn't just study harder

You shouldn't just drop out when you get one bad grade, it's kinda pathetic to give up so easily

You need Algebra II to get to college. Talk to a guidance councilor at your school.

Your best bet to save your Academic GPA would be to take Algebra II Semester 1 over again next semester - I did that my Junior year. And I did Algebra II Semester 2 twice my Senior year. And passed with a D. So believe me, I know exactly the situation you're in. Algebra is just crazy hard.

But really, you need to bring this to a guidance councilor. They're the ones best equipped to help you, even if they suck.

It's really all up to you and the school you're going to for accounting. I used to be an accounting major and in my time during my course, I didn't have to take any high level math classes. But you know, you should check with the school that you are planning on attending to check what their curricula is. Also, do you have an academic counselor? It seems best that you check with them and get their opinion and then go from there.

Lol, I'm not going into accounting. I meant I wanted to take the class, not the career.

I'm in my senior class right now though so I could do a double semester.

Also, you passed with a D? I thought D was still a fail?

I totally forgot about counseled help. I will see him.

I'm just so not used to failing or being in this type of situation

Beloved it or not, I am in the EXACT same position as you. Half the year we had a student teacher and now we Are being taught by our normal techer. I did okay in Algebra 1 and alright in Geomatry, but Algebra 2 is destroying my (school) life. I'm thinking of just finishing the year failing and retaking it next year or just drooping the whole thing. But that would mean that I wouldn't be able to use the program at our school to get a scholarship. It sucks that failing one class can ruin so much of your year...

D is not a fail. D is a below average. So in high school, it's still a passing grade. It just brings your GPA a smidgen, though. However, it reflects poorly on your transcript when being considered for school. Also, sorry. xD What are you planning on doing after high school?

Oh man I remember Algebra II, although math isn't my strong suite I ended up with a B both semesters.
I'm in college right now and I can definitely tell you that you'll need Algebra II but not everything from it.
I suggest studying harder and maybe finding someone who can help you? I do remember f(g(x)) popping up i my first semester of college last year ( I took a remedial math class *eye rolls* so it was a non-credited course ) but it also depends on your major.
I took statistics and obvi. nothing about Algebra II came up.

But like I said earlier, it really depends on what your planning to major in.

I actually took Algebra II in college as well, called MAT 105. It's the lowest non-remedial math class. And I got a D. For literally the 5th time. (But I also found out I have dyscalculia, a learning disability, so... working on some paperwork with my college's Disability Resource Center but I might get that grade cleared and some extra help when I have to take Stats).

But yeah, teachers don't like to advertise it, but "D's get Degrees". It's totally a passing grade. If you can manage a D (not a D-!! A D regular.) through this Semester, and get a good enough grade D+ or better next Semester to average your total grade out to a D, you can totally pass.

See if your school has a tutoring program, too. I totally did 2 years of tutoring in Algebra II.

I would suggest keeping it right now, though in the end it's all up to you and what you're going for afterwards. I'm currently in Algebra II right now and my teacher is terrific, and he's always telling us that taking Algebra II is going to be helpful for the next coming years. Also, the material in the class as of now seems essential for later.

I did really well in al and geo but I guess my brain said NO to Al2, lol.

I made a thread about that ages ago, lol. I don't really know, tbh. I hate being that person but I've worked in a vet clinic and I worked towards being a vet, but I learned I hate the field.

I'm working towards something based in translation but still, I'm not entirely sure it's the career for me :/

We have a very small tutoring program. It offers math but only up to geometry. :(

However, I'll see if the users on here can help me :)

what's algebra II
like what are topics you're learning about in it

Um, I'm not sure how to answer this. What im learning now currently would be rational exponents and radical functions. Throughout the semester though, the chapters go: equations and inequalities, linear equations and functions, linear systems and matrices, quadratic functions and factoring, and polynomial and polynomial functions. I get some of it. Btw, these are just chapter titles.

if you plan to ever take a math course in university you're gonna have to learn how to do those except with harder examples, I'd suggest you just power through and get tutoring if you really don't get it. a D- is still a pass, better that than a F in uni imo.

edit/also you could look at youtube videos for things you get, there's a lot of really good ones that explain concepts/examples pretty well. considering none of those should include super difficult proofs or anything as long as you do lots of examples I think you should be ok!!

If you need any help I am also here, I used to tutor the seniors in ALG II since I took it as a freshman. I'm in my senior year and have run out of classes to take at school, so they have me go to the University to take classes. Though, they won't let me take Trig until I enroll full time. Anyways, if you need help, I'm here.

ALSO
Don't drop the class, get the hard stuff out of the way now. You'll need alg 2 to graduate

I hated math/algebra so I feel your pain. Won't go into my terrible story but I do suggest you try very hard in this class. Majority of colleges that I know of require this class at the very least to get in. Many high schools require algebra 2 completion to even be able to graduate. If you're not going into anything math related in the future that's fine, but do keep in mind that some majors do actually require you to take general courses such as math so you can't really avoid it tbh.
Some things you can do for now:
Go to your counselor.
Ask for a possible change in teacher if it actually is the problem, if they refuse then get your parents to request it as I don't think they can deny it if it's affecting a student from possible graduation.
Find a tutor, either in school or out. Any kind of program at all, a group study.
Do further research on your own about the units.

This might be a long shot, but sometimes if you can find some kind of answer key WITH examples online it can help you so much especially if it has explanations. I used to be pretty desperate to pass this class so I had to do so much of my own studying bc my teacher sucked...really paid off.
