Hey all!

So the New Nintendo 3DS came out recently and it looks quite good compared to the olders 3DS models.
Anyways, i do not have any experience with the system so i do not know if the improvements in hardware and the new face tracking 3D makes a big difference.
I plan on buying the regular sized one, (Not available in the US i guess)
because it has that faceplate swap feature!
But there is one problem, is it actually worth it buying one while you still have a working 3DS XL?
I just bought the Smash 3DS XL (Game included with the EU version),
because my aqua blue regular sized 3DS stopped working.
The new 3DS wasn't announced overseas yet when i bought the Smash 3DS XL.
Because of that i do not think that it has enough improvements to buy it right now.

What do you guys think of it? Should i get one now or should i wait until my current one stops working?

I would say don't upgrade if you have a 3DS XL. I have a 3DS XL. From everything I've read, there aren't really enough improvements that make it worth upgrading to a New 3DS XL.

Same screen size.
Loads more quickly but I don't really have an issue with loading times on my current 3DS.
3D with head tracking is great but I don't know how often you use the 3D while playing.
It doesn't come with a charging cable but you already have one so no issue there.

The biggest factor for me is the screen size and the games. When they start producing more games that only run on the new system then I'll consider switching. Until then I don't think it's worth it to go out and buy a new one.

If you think that you aren't in a hurry on getting any New 3DS model, then I would recommend waiting for one of your relatives to give it as a present or in the next Christmas. While the improvements made on these systems are contributing to a better overall experience, it is definitely a worthy purchase to those who don't own a 3DS yet, but won't be an essential purchase for existing owners.

The New 3DS models not only boast some extra inputs from the Circle Pad Pro and a much more stable 3D effect, but the speakers are definitely clearer and louder. The HOME Menu, eShop, Miiverse, the model-specific Internet Browser and the overall Internet Connection are significantly faster than any older 3DS model. Even games benefit from the system, such as added power to make these games load faster, along with extra features such added inputs and even amiibo compatibility embedded in the system. Keep in mind that you will not only have to own a 3DS/DSi AC adapter, but you might also have to buy a larger capacity microSD card and a Philips #00 screwdriver with a cross-shaped bit. Not only you will get to swap microSD cards, but you will also make the System Transfer even easier and faster.

The only New 3DS exclusive game that's going to be released at soonest is Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. If you really want to play this one and struggle finding the Wii version, then consider getting a New 3DS model. If that's not what you're seeking for, there's no need to fork your cash down as soon as possible.

On the small New 3DS, its size and its screens are slightly bigger than the original 3DS. If you like a compact handheld, its cover plates and cheaper price, then pick this model. Otherwise, I would wholeheartedly recommend going with the New 3DS XL model, especially if you have rather large hands. Its ergonomic is more comfortable than the older 3DS XL and its screens are even more colorful and crisp.

Yeah that is exactly what i thought, i will wait for a bit then, thanks for the information though!

Naahhh i do not need advice on what type 3DS i want, i made those decisions already, i mainly bought a 3DS Smash XL because it had a free game inside and because of the normal sized 3DS systems being discontinued nowadays... I will miss my aqua blue 3DS!

But i will wait till there are some good exclusive games, i also do not mind the downloading times. I just turn my Wii U on and play Mario Kart for a bit hahah!

No problem!

That's what I would too. I would play your 3DS XL until E3 (mid June) to see what kind of emphasis Nintendo plans to give the New 3DS going forward.

If they announce a bunch of features, must have games, amiibos, price drops, etc. then you can re-evaluate whether it's worth getting or not. :)

Exactly! I hope they fix that amiibo stock problem soon though, there are some real gems in the business here!

I really hope that they announce Animal Crossing for the Wii U, even if it is going to take 2 years for it to be released, i just wanna know if it is going to happen or not!

I think they're going to re-release some this summer so but I agree. I really wish I could get a villager one

I would be SHOCKED if they didn't come out with one for Wii U. Since they included AC elements in Smash and Mario Kart it would be giant jerk move if they just said "nope! that's all the animal crossing for you! MUHAHAHAHA (evil laugh)" :p

Yeah and to add on that, Animal Crossing New Leaf sold great! So why not make one for the Wii U to have a chance in increased sales? By the way, they are re-releasing the Villager amiibo, along with: Marth, Captain Falcon and Little Mac in May here in Europe. Do not know the situation about the US.

Oh I see. I think they are re-releasing just the Marth figure in the US. I couldn't find any details about additional amiibo coming either.

That's a shame, maybe they will give some details later then!!

Waste of money to be honest unless you do a trade of your older model for money off. When you've got a perfect working system, theres no need to switch unless your desperate for a c stick and minor performance improvements. I rarely use the 3d. Regardless of head tracking, I still wouldn't use the 3d. With talk of Nintendo going mobile, and a new nx console, im thinking of waiting until 2016 to see where everything goes.

Yup that might be a smart choice too, it is like the DS lite situation!

Yeah should i upgrade to DSi while i still have a neatly looking and working DS lite? Nahh i will just wait for the 3DS!

I think i will do just that! Wait for the 3DS and stick with my DS lite if you get what i mean! Hahah! :D

I'd say no. You have a working 3DS XL so unless you don't like it, you can just use it and get the New 3DS later, check if prices drop a bit, and see if there are any games that are exclusive to it that you want. If you want to more than one 3DS/new 3DS (if you trade between two ACNL towns belonging to you, for example) or if you dislike the 3DS XL, then you should get it, but otherwise there's no hurry.

Wait to see if more exclusive games come out for it that you want. If so then you should get it. Otherwise stick with what you have. It'll only be said necessary to upgrade if a bunch of games you want come out of it.

I only upgraded for the better 3DS and C-Stick to play future 3DS games better, so weigh up the pros and cons for yourself and make a decision. I'm glad I upgraded! :D

I don't think its fair to compare the New 3DS to a DS Lite or DSi. Lite had no exclusives and was just a standalone hardware update, while the DSi did have exclusives, 5 in total, only 1 was made by Nintendo and none of them were released across the world.
Nintendo at least promises there will be big name exclusives for N3DS and Xenoblade 3D already beats the pants off what the DSi offered.

But yeah as said, buy it if exclusives come out you want. Otherwise don't bother. They're still going to do regular 3DS games.

Yeah well the problem is that i am a 14 years old kid, i do not have enough money to buy everything that i want. And even if i do have enough money, my parents won't allow me to buy anything.

Geez you do not have to take everything so seriously! I was not really comparing that much i just meant that it is a similar situation! I do not care how many exclusives there are for the DSi, i just knew that it was an upgrade from the regular DS/DS lite, that's the new 3DS too compared to the regular one. That's all! No stress comments because the exclusive games do not match!
