since the mermaid furniture is out i’ve been collecting all my shells the last few weeks. starting yesterday i had one shell on all of my beaches when i loaded the game, and nothing spawned the rest of the time i was playing. i loaded the game today and same thing - just one shell. is anyone else having this issue? is there a way to fix it?

Mine hasn't been spawning many summer shells either. At first I got scared it was because they were no longer available in July. But that's not the case. I'm not sure what to do to spawn them, but maybe pick up all the shells every day to generate a need to spawn more in general? I haven't tried that yet but I'm going to. Hopefully they spawn a little quicker! Some of those items require a LOT sdfkljdf.

whenever you pluck your beach dry, it usually takes me a day to have a full beach again, with shells slowly appearing throughout the day.

Just making sure that your beaches are empty? Mine are covered in flowers and it stopped the shells from spawning. If it's not that, then I'm not sure sorry!

My beaches are always super sparse after I completely strip it of shells or star fragments. It usually takes 24 hours or so to be completely full again!

Even if your beaches are covered in flowers, shells should still spawn close to the water. The game purposely doesn't allow you to place items here to leave room for shells and Gulliver/Gullivaar. (Source = personal experience: two of my beaches are full to the max with flowers, but I still have shells spawning)

Yeah, I think that must be the case. Shells do take a while to spawn after completely stripping my beaches (both my flower filled beaches and my less decorated ones) like @Pintuition was saying, and maybe they slowed the spawn rate even more with the recent update? Idk
