Selling Villagers for Profit: Thoughts

I think it comes down to the fact that this isn't a business. It's a game. People are trying to have fun, and cyclers do it so they can help people have their dreamies, have fun, and be happy. So to turn around and try to make a profit on that seems really mean to me.

Unfortunately, irl and in business, people do all kinds of shady things, that are actually quite legal and legit. Like kicking people out of their homes because they can't pay their mortgage, etc.

But ACNL is a game, and people have the opportunity to create a whole different kind of world. If someone wants to live by real life rules in their game, that's entirely their choice. But I see it as an opportunity to create a fantasy world where people help each other, have compassion, and the bottom line is fun not money.

I think the whole dreamie/buying villager thing is ridiculous to begin with. The personalities in the game are all clones of each other, yet people get so crazy and bent out of shape over one in particular. However, Animal Crossing is a game where everyone can choose how they wanna play, and if their dreamies make them happy then great. That said, I have taken advantage of the craze and profited off selling popular dreamies- Merengue and Diana. I sold them for what I think was a reasonable price though-- I don't really need 20 million bells, if you need money in Animal Crossing you can get is super easy with turnips.

Personally I think I've said my opinion already, but idc.

So I know that this is a somewhat controversial topic but I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this issue.
So selling villagers that you get off of cycling threads is considered a no-no. I have also noticed that even obtaining villagers from auctions to sell them for a higher price (for example, say I got Ankha for 5 million and managed to sell her for 20 million) is also considered taboo. However, in real life, people often buy things to sell them for profit. This is how a lot of business owners make money and, somehow, nobody seems to think it's wrong. So I'm just wondering why many seem to think that doing so in a game which only uses in-game currency (not real money) is so terrible.
Thoughts?

I'm just going to address the OP.

If you've been given the villager for free and the cycler's first post states - " Do not resell " That's because the cycler is spending their time and effort to give away a villager that's wanted and hopefully loved, not to give it away so someone else can make a profit from it. Think of it like taking items from the donation bin and selling them at the second hand store. That wasn't the purpose of the donation bin. They made the effort to cycle and save and hold and TT and contact etc.; if a profit is to be made then the cycler should be the one to make it.

I cycle. I want to give the villager to someone that wants that particular villager in their town. In some cases, it's a very popular villager and the player can't compete with the bids from older players. I have a chance for big profits too - but I want to give everyone a chance to get their dreamie so I'll let it go for free. Someone getting the villager and then selling it or auctioning it off takes away from my wishes, removes the chances of someone who can't afford it getting it and basically makes me feel like your thumbing your nose at me.

Respect the cycler's wishes... it's only right. If you don't like it then get another game and set up a cycling town yourself.

Part two.

If you win an auction and have paid bells for the villager, IMO it's up to you if you want to sell it, void it or love it. The person selling has agreed to the final price. They are happy. You now own that villager and you have no obligation to the original owner.

If someone is willing to pay for a villager, then sell them, easy as that.
I dont personally like to sell them but if I need the bells, I probably would, and I'm always up to buying one if ots my dreamie
