I've been considering getting a second copy to do cycling and time traveling so I don't accidentally lose my dreamies on my first.....I have another 3ds, what are the advantages and disadvantages of running two towns? I'd like to boost my store and amiibo adoptions without having to worry about villagers accidentally moving away ;;

Second towns are great! I would recommend them :)
I currently have two- one that's my main town (contains my dreamies and such) and one for cycling.
I don't use my main town for anything but personal things, meaning I don't sell villagers/flowers/items/etc. The only time I'll TT in that town is to move a villager out as well.
My cycling town is purely for cycling alone, both to sell villagers and to hunt for dreamies. I've made a ton of bells to fund my other town, so I would recommend it just for that! It's a super easy way to make easy money :D

Just be careful, though, I've noticed that it's been a little hard selling villagers. There's a lot of people currently giving them away for super cheap prices and even for free, which can get a little hard to compete with. ^^;

but I could also obtain sets quicker, I think, like my sanrio sets. i have all six cards but it takes forever to get the sets because i have to be careful not let dreamies go..

im considering making a second town but I don't know if you need a second 3ds for it or not orz

I think there's something you can do where you don't need a second 3ds, but I personally don't think it's worth the risk since i have a second one anyways....

second towns are really usual for me at least. one is a cycling and the other is my main. they both look good so if one corrupts for whatever reason i'll always have the other.
if you want to start again and you've done a lot it's better if you get a 2nd copy too and see how it goes.
it's also nice to get 20 villagers you want and experiment with themes

I currently have four towns, all with a set theme and villagers planned out...And I also have three 3DSes (with a fourth soon on the way), but if you have physical copies, they can all be played on a single system. Having a second one would be necessary to trade amongst yourself, though.

Clearly I'm an advocate for multi-town ownership, lol.

I am embarrassed to admit I have eleven towns and ACNL is the only game I play. I have a great schedule of juggling towns that works for me. I enjoy many villagers, landscaping in different ways and just designing towns on my own schedule. So if it were me, I highly suggest another town, lol.

I just got another copy of the game and I highly recommend it! It's nice to have two because you can plan two towns and do different things in each. They can have different themes and villagers and it's nice to have some variety because there's so many nice public works projects and everything!

This. I have two cartridges and have an autumn all pig town and a spring all dog town.

Now I don't feel so bad thinking about getting a 6th town haha. Decorating towns is super relaxing for me and takes away a lot of stress from school, though I don't have a lot of time to play everyday.

I too just purchased a second game!!! *Well I technically have 3 I guess, but really 1 is my 7yo daughters but she has me do alotta the stuff to it, where as this new one is STRICLTY mine!*

STRALEAF *the new town* is pretty new, and I made it September there and lemme tell ya...ive had the town for 3 days and I have already caught ALL the fish in the ocean I was missing from my CRIBBET (Original and main Town) encyclopedia!!! It was rather thrilling lol.
So far I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE having the 2 towns, but its hard cause I don't have too much time I can devote to them *making paths....or doing ANYTHING that requires REAL time and patience* because well...cause I have 2 kids, a husband, a needy cat and a home to run lol.

Lemme ask...What exactly is "cycling"???

Cycling is where you time travel a lot and move several different villagers in and out and often times give them away to people who want them. There are several cycling threads in the villager trading forum, or at least there used to be. Not sure how many are still left since the amiibo update, and I haven't checked recently.

I just started a new town on a second cartridge! It is amazing how undeveloped our towns start out as... I feel like I have no resources haha. Makes you appreciate how much time you put into your first game! I am only on day 3 ;)

I got a second copy recently. I put it off for a long time because I wasn't sure it would be a good idea for me to buy a second copy of a game I already have, but at the same time I was getting bored of my first town but I didn't want to reset. I have had this town for almost four years and I put so much hard work into it that I didn't want to lose. So I caved and bought a second copy and it
definitly is worth it. I love being able to interact with new villagers, and being able to come up with new ideas for my town.
