So, new horizons give us a loooooot of freedom, way too much. I had way too many ideas but I had to settle down on something, so I ended up having to scrap some.

What are your scrapped ideas?

Mine:
1. At start, I had a big plaza with the shops, and lots of stalls, tea cup rides, ballons and flowers in the middle of it, in a fenced area. I have the same layout for the shops, but I changed the general aesthetic a lot.
2. I had this graveyard with a Brewster picture, mourning that he wasn't in the game. I needed the graves somewhere else, and I was out of stones. And he is coming. I believe.
3. I was going to make my home a mansion and take space of two cliffs levels, with stairs to a lower level where would it be kind of horror themed place. Or it would have a pool, barbecue, and big lake. Or it would be a zen garden. I had to many ideas.
4. Speaking of zen garden, I tried to make my house like a japanese house, but I wanted to make the floor like sand and small stones, but after playing with custom patterns a LOT, I gave up.
5. When I got the easter island statue from Gulliver, I was going to make a shrine for it with "yo angelo" written in a sign next to it.
6. Plant a lot of trees and make a path with dirt, which would lead to place with an waterfall and camping furniture, very secluded and hidden. I kind of did it, but it wasnt looking how I wanted so I gave up.
7. Create a character for my mom, just to make her house in a very fancy area who looked like a castle entrance. Scrapped because it would take way too much space and money to upgrade.
8. A Lolita café, surrounded by pink and black flowers, very cutesy. I had the furniture laid down, but I kept moving it every two days, so I gave up on finding space for it,
9. Putting pictures of every villager in front of their houses, (like danganronpa lmao), and I kinda want to put them again, it just don't fit my theme very well.
10. Making a bycicle path. I made it in the path between my hybrid garden, but I destroyed in favor of something else. I still remember picking all those flowers and terraforming all that space. *chills*

I wasted a lot of time, bells and sanity... terraforming and decorating my island to not like it. I decided i wanted to do a Japanese theme, then halfway through i wanted a red-brick-modern themed island, then halfway through that i wanted to do a natural themed island, which is my island now. with all the freedom what you can do in New Horizons I had so many ideas. I didn't know what to do, what not to do, and where to start. a few scrapped ideas were making a memorial for my mom, making hot springs and zen gardens, and making a public park for my villagers.

prior to the game coming out, i really only had room ideas as i wasn’t sure of all the possibilities with landscaping. while most of the ideas i came up with are being implemented, i had this whole idea of covering my island in tulips and overall having a very colourful island.

while i am still planning on having my island as colourful as possible, i’m swapping out the tulips for various pink hybrids and i might decide to not have a bunch of fruit trees everywhere as i originally planned. i also thought i wanted the brick bridges and inclines but i’ve since decided on the wooden bridge and log incline and replacing everything is more expensive than it would’ve been if i had just gone with the wooden/log designs in the first place lmao

i initially wanted to have a section of my island dedicated to midsommar... and then the flowers kept growing everywhere and looking like a giant mess, so i'm scrapping it for now! i will probably return to it once the rest of the island is finished and then i can just fence them in :)

First I flattened the whole island.

I made kind of park cliff hiking area with my campsite. Scrapped it.

Tried to make a fairytale castle town like the ones from Europe int the middle ages. Kept it a good while but scrapped.

Make a cherry Blossom spa. Scrapped.
Make a zen hotel outside with bamboo stuff also scrapped.

Outdoor eating area. Pine tree forest area. Stall areas. Nope.

Tried a "royal garden" before hedges and it was a big place to breed flowers. Move it to a massive flower storage area.

My island is kind of how I want it now. It's set up so that 1st level is shop and character homes. 2nd level is just NPC villager homes with woods around them. And 3rd level is the museum and museum garden area (aka my hybrid storage).

None of the ares are really finished and I'm struggling real bad with the first lvl now.

I was going to do a yard/garden with a stream below my house. I scrapped the stream, since the river isn't that far, made it more forested, and just a small seating area on the cliff.

my house having a grand entrance. i scrapped that. walking to get to my house is not it anyway. and i have too many inclines already and my plan would involve having 2-3 inclines just for my house. i used it instead for the market place & museum. the museum being near my shops bothered, me. i moved it somewhere far, and couldn't be more happy i choose that instead for my house. the museum is so spacious inside, it feels more realistic when it's above a cliff, so it feels like the museum is somewhere down there lol. i'm not really going to realism, but i noticed that when i happened to move it.
i'll have another idea for my house soon, but this is it for now. i thought i'd have more space, but whew.... i have too many parks & spas and didn't realize how much space i'd need for those areas.

I originally wanted to make a series of Islands in a giant lake that each had villager houses/shops on them. However, 8 bridges and the effort of having to flatten the island has discouraged me from doing so.

Waterfall cave, not really scrapped but I changed it into an alleyway so I could access my secret beach.

Was also going to have an alleyway-cave sort of thing leading to a Japanese area but that failed, so I changed it into a mini-island surrounded by a forest of bushes, all the tree types, and white flowers. It's by the beach too so it's a weird contrast but I really like it and this was the first thing I did without stealing ideas or inspiration.

  • I wanted to do a kind of shrine area similar to the Japanese GameCube-era games just before release due to seeing the one that was in Pocket Camp, but at the moment, there's nothing like that in the game. (Might do in future, if there's anything like that added in.)
  • I was going to have the cliff between my house and the shops be a lot shorter, but at the moment I'm honestly kind of frustrated with how big and aimless my garden is, so having more cliff in it would make it much worse.
  • I did have the lighthouse on a seperate cliff on the peninsula area, but it looked annoying.
At the moment, though, I'm quite pleased with my town! Still waiting on a couple of DIY recipes to add some bits to it, as well as waiting on Leif to sell me the other few varieties of bushes... but it's generally looking great.

I made a waterfall entrance to the museum but scrapped it because it looked horrible. that's pretty much it. I'm working on a plaza with an incline right now to lead up to the museum but I'm struggling with the incline placement....hopefully I won't scrap this idea...

My initial idea was to make one huge mountain, but I felt it was too... generic?

I was originally going to put my house in the back of the map in a field surrounded by 2-tier waterfalls but decided not to move my house. I made the waterfalls then ended up feeling like it would be a pain having to use the ladder all the time since I don't want inclines around that area. My house is on the beach by the airport and shops so it's super convenient as it is.
