I need to vent. I've been playing my new town for a couple of weeks now and I have managed to catch every single fish and bug available in the summer.... except the Scarab beetle. I'm going insane!!! How is it that I haven't caught one yet, I never thought them to be THIS rare??

Is anyone else experiencing this lack of luck with the Scarab or any other kind of bug/fish/sea creature?

You can only catch them between 11 pm-6 am if I'm correct. I know how it is, i still never found the giant beetle.

It should be the same size as the fruit beetle, but more yellow. I'd recommend going out late at night and catching every fruit beetle you see just in case one happens to be in there.

What I did to get it was I went to the island late at night and had only one regular non-palm tree in the centre (i still had palm trees on the beach area though) and I would do my regular bug catching there and each time I would check the non-palm and eventually I had a few scarabs pop up. They look a lot like the fruit beetle though which is really annoying

It was night, and I was randomly playing and for some reason I decided to catch this "Fruit Beetle" but it turned out to be a scarab beetle! You will find one, one day. I had a hard time catching the Giant Petaltail, but I got it! Just don't stop trying. :p

I've only seen one Orchid Mantis so far. Was creeping up on it when dumb old Al came running up to me scaring it off.

Haven't seen one since.

exactly this.
I find most scarabs & giant stags on the island between 6am & 8am (they are around until 8am). (On the regular tree in the middle). And the scarab does look a lot like the fruit beetle. (well its the same size).

I keep the centre part of the island full of flowers, white all on one side, a two tile empty space down the middle to circle the island without scaring the palm tree bugs.
This means I get orchid mantis (after 8am & all day) & birdwings - I use the latter for another town's bug offs. (virtually guarantees the special furniture). I don't find the other cheaper butterflies a problem, sometimes keep emperors/agrias, I haven't found it to reduce the palm tree beetles I get, as I catch all & sell what I don't want.

Edit: 6am to 8am on the island is a good time to catch palm tree beetles as well - I often go at this time as some bugs are not around, so the palm beetles seem really plentiful. I get a lot of emperors tho.

i used to go to the island every day the first few weeks of my town and i caught one pretty early. i thought it was a fruit beetle but it turned out to be niceeeeee :>

I tend to catch scarab beetles pretty easily. Giant beetles are the ones that give me problems, I have yet to catch one on New Leaf and during my 5 years of WW I've only caught 3 or 4.

And right now I'm having trouble catching a salmon/king salmon...over an hour of searching and I haven't even SEEN one.

Thanks for the advice everybody. I guess I'll just keep trying, haha I've even had to time travel back to August so that I can still catch it. :)
