Saharah's gender?

Well in the japanese version she's a male, so i'm guessing she's originally intended to be male. However, with the way other villagers refer to her and her voice I believe she's female in the english versions of the game. Personally i've always thought of her as a female, but I think she's meant to be either. I think it's up to anyone to decide what gender she is, as it's been proven she could be either.

she's male in japan and female for the west

also for people pointing out the eyelashes, all camels have long eyelashes. its to protect their eyes from the desert sands blowing around. so being changed to female because of that is really quite dumb

i see her as a trans girl, due to the fact that everyone in-game refers to her with feminine pronouns but she has a masculine voice (the smug voice).
so yeah, i see her as female. always have, always will.

she's male in the japanese version. maybe the japanese release takes place before the other releases and everyone in-game thinks she's a male? or they're just alternate universes idk

i think so too. julian and i think ed have eyelashes but they got to keep their genders. i still see saharah as a girl regardless

maybe she's non-binary? although i'm not sure if she'd be androgynous or genderfluid or something else

THANK YOU FOR NOTICING THAT! seriously I thought I was the only one who pointed out the fact that she is
a camel and they have long eyelashes...

I want to point out there are male characters that are in the game and have eyelashes and females that don't...

so please stop with all the "they have eyelashes so they are a girl" rubbish :/

kinda wonder if this is more just due to personality being restricted by gender than anything else

plus for julian it helps give him the mystical vibe they clearly want

She's definitely a girl. Other villagers refer to her as a girl, saying things like "She does marvelous work."

Same as Gracie. Male in Japan, female everywhere else.

It has nothing to do with translation issues and everything to do with uptight people and parents who don't want their kids "exposed" to something like Saharah and Gracie looking to "effeminate" to be male and since Nintendo is all about "family" they will pretty much do whatever they deem is necessary to appease to parents or people with that mentality.

Gracie and Saharah are both male in my japenese game and are referred with male pronouns, while the western release refers to them as female.

it's weird that they didn't do that for pave, isn't it? not that i have anything against male pave. it just seems odd they'd change gracie's and saharah's genders but not pave's.

Why would they? Only the male Peacocks have the bright giant feather fans while females are a plain old brown. That one is literally following its proper gender stuff lol

that's true but in the western release they still gave saharah a male voice.
still, it's weird they'd be okay with one effeminate male but not two or three. unless pave debuted in new leaf, then i guess it'd make sense to keep gracie and saharah female just to keep consistency in the games

they also gave pave a female voice so. idk what that would show

Pave isn't effeminate though. He is based off the Rio Carnival where both men and women wear elaborate get ups and bright colored outfits, that look like peacock feathers. So they just took a peacock since the males are already colorful and just threw some rio carnival getup on him. The only character I see as a effeminate is Gracie for the way he speaks and acts in the games. Saharah though I've never really seen her as female if that makes sense? Usually they make female NPCs dress or act or even give a female vibe but Saharah has always just been like... Androgynous to me I guess

i can see why saharah would be seen as androgynous, she's referred to with female pronouns yet she has a male voice. most western players see her as female, i think. i do but i also see her as androgynous if that makes sense

In the end people can infer the villagers to be how they want :P I have some guy friends who have higher voices than "other" guys and have female friends who have deeper voices than "other" females so it all depends on how you want to infer it.

I don't really see how it matters, but if I had to choose, I guess male because Saharah was originally male.

That's definitely a possibility, but I meant I do think it's up to the player to decide what Saharah identifies as, if that makes sense? Since there's no real answer in the games.
