Rules for a new playthrough?

I was wondering if anyone else have little rules that they stick to with each playthrough. For instance, I don't use custom patterns and just use when they have in game.

My only hard rule is I don't time travel. Nothing against it, I just find TTing burns me out quicker. I don't really buy villagers from others either, but that's mostly because I don't play with dreamies in mind.

I know other people play where they don't trade items with anyone online, or don't buy currency from others etc etc. I am not one of those people as, especially with NH, it's a necessary mechanic to utilise for me.
