What are the risks associated with getting hacked items from other people? I'm sure there are some, and I would like to know what they are. A lot of giveaways I see nowadays are hacked items (not just duped).

I doubt there are any risks by just having a hacked item in your inventory or game. This was never really an issue in the other AC games that became hacked, besides certain hacked items only available in WW and maybe CF, but having a normal hacked item like flowers, furniture, etc won't hurt your game.

Thanks! What about bugs? Hacked so they can be dropped and they look like the little containers you see when you hand a bug to Blathers. Would those affect the game in a negative way?

They are the same as the other hacked items so they aren't going to cause any harm. They're "normal" items as well that can be produced from the game.

I'm confused, how do you know hacked items are being given away frequently? Because hacking is "bad" and we aren't even allowed to speak of it on this forum.

But no, it wouldn't harm your game unless it was a certain item you picked up. Tbf there SHOULD be a post explaining this to help people but none of the mods on here would allow it since its not how they play their game.

Discussion regarding hacking and duplicating is banned from the forum because it doesn't contribute to a fair playing environment. This isn't just because of how we play our own games, but because hacked and duplicated items influence prices and activities in the Marketplace and Retail, which isn't fair on players who earn their items legitimately. It isn't how Nintendo intended for the game to be played and ultimately leads to members having to compete with players that haven't participated fairly.

That said, we can't stop everyone from doing it. What we can do is prevent discussion on it occurring and discipline those caught doing it.

If you are going to bypass the rules that we have for hacking and duplicating items then it is absolutely at your own risk. Because of that, we don't need a post explaining what those risks are.
