A friend of mine is having their Switch Lite repaired. The battery will not hold a charge. The repair store has ordered a new battery. If that does not work, they said they might need to replace the motherboard. Hopefully that is not needed. Will this erase her New Horizons game data? Will she be able to restore her game? She does have a Nintendo membership.

Like my friend, I am also wondering if I have used my membership to the full because I understand there is some game backup feature which I am not really clear on. Is this something extra that has to be done, or is there some sort of saving of NH just by having the membership. I recall going through something when we first got memberships, but that was a while age - probably not long after the game came out. NH is the only game we play on the Switch Lite. We downloaded the game digitally when it first came out in case that information is also relevant.

You have to manually enable save backups once by pressing minus on the title screen and asking Tom Nook about it, but after that it's automatic and backs up whenever your game is closed. A battery replacement shouldn't cause any data loss, but a motherboard replacement would. If your friend has enabled save backups, they should be able to restore it.
