Raymond: The Hot Topic!

I’ve been trying to stay spoiler-free regarding the new villagers, so I didn’t know what Raymond looked like - only that a lot of people here were going wild for him.

this morning I ran into him on an island tour. Honestly, I don’t see why there is such hype for him. He looks like a hipster to me. I invited him to live on my island anyway. He may grow on me and if he doesn’t I imagine someone here would be happy to take him off my hands.

i definitely don’t understand why he’s more popular than Audie, who I also have. I also got really lucky and ran into Sherb yesterday and he’s moving in tomorrow. But I know goats aren’t too popular and sherb has a baby face so I can understand why people like Raymond more.

raymond is my irl brothers name, I think it’s interesting that they chose that name since it’s not a popular name.

I honestly don’t understand the hype. I definitely don’t hate him though. I can’t really have an opinion until I interact with him but first impressions are ‘blah’. I think it’s really cool he has heterochromia but that’s it. I’m not a big cat fan, I find his colouring boring and I don’t really like glasses on villagers. Honestly, if I didn’t know he was popular and I found him on an island tour I would skip him. The only reason I’d take him now would be to trade him later. It’s always nice seeing the community get excited about a new villager but he’s just not for me.

I certainly understand that. While that doesn't apply to me for this specific villager, there are some popular villagers in general that I don't like nearly as much as many others do. I actually used to dislike some of the villagers that I really like now too though.

I actually like all of the new villagers, although I have mixed feelings about Megan and Cyd. But the rest of the newbies are cute! I love Audie and Sherb, Judy is pretty cute but she's below those two for me. I'm jealous of my sister who has Audie lol

I forgot about Dom! He's super cute too! I still really like Raymond, but he definitely didn't replace my favorite villager Cleo. I only dislike Megan and Cyd probably but they aren't too bad either. Just not my type! I'm sad that people can get in a bad way over a character but that's one of the reasons why I wanna have these conversations. Not to get people in a bad way I mean, but to see many different points of view! Thanks for sharing!

meh. I guess he's ok? really have no idea what the hype is about. I know he doesn't have an amiibo card, at least not yet, but I still don't think he's entirely worth what people are paying for him. lol his appearance is perfect for a smug villager, so I guess I can see how that would make him appealing... since I think a lot of people dislike most of the other smug villagers' appearances. Hippeux's appearance is also perfect for a smug villager but I've consistently seen people express their extreme dislike of him LOL

imo he’s pretty much a marshal in cat form similar dialog (no duh they’re both smug), similar tuft of blonde hair, similar hype (he’s the new marshal), both have a very cutesy design.

I like them both! Wouldn’t pay hundreds of nmts for either though

I think he's ok, not one of my favorites but i don't dislike him either. Cats aren't my favorite species to begin with, and his business aesthetic just isn't for me.

I like him a lot. I am into business chic and I like his design. What I don't understand is the hype about him being 'suuuper moe ♡☆♡☆'. He doesn't even keep the cutsy clothing because it's not his style.

I also agree to that. I like both but wouldn't pay what others will for them. He is literally cat Marshall!

I like him an average amount, but honestly the crazy hype has made me not want him in my town. Same reason I don't care for Marshal. I don't really want the super-popular, just-about-everyone's-favorite villagers. They feel less unique to me when SO many people have them. Trust me I will! I already regret passing her up back on the island tours so I'm excited to have her when she arrives! She's perfect for a peppy, and I rarely have bird villagers, so the diversity is good for me.

I agree totally! I have a couple of the super popular animals in my town but I also have some tier 3, 4, and even lower I think. I Iove Cleo more than any other villager and have ever since the Gamecube game where she was my bestie for so long. I bought her amiibo card back when she returned in new leaf and I cannot believe she's not very popular because I just adore her so much! Not even Raymond can replace my girl!

I had a gray tabby with heterochromia. While she was female, and her eyes were brown and blue, I just found Raymond to be an awesome close design for her, because there are no torties at all like my other cat ( which is really sad to me ). I also just have a thing for glasses on characters, and I prefer how I look in my own glasses, so Raymond just ticks all the boxes for me.

I wish people would stop making a spectacle of his auction threads, and people would stop being so ridiculously greedy and overinflating everything. It's making people hate him when before this, I'm fairly sure he would have been neutral at worst to most of the people who hate him now.

I'll probably never get him,,, because I know once his amiibo card comes out, people will inflate the prices of it like they are with the cards now already ( I saw a Marina card selling for over 50$, like ... come the heck on, now ), and I've already been to over 100 islands and TT'd day by day for 5 months with no smugs and haven't gotten him in my camp. I also refuse to pay these ridiculous prices for him, because they're incredibly unfair.

So, I guess I'll hope to one day pay homage to Pennies through Animal Crossing some other way, one day.

The poll seems a bit biased. There are two positive options, and one negative option. And the only negative option is quite harsh. Why is there not a "dislike him" option?

Just nitpicking here, but yeah. I have no opinion on him. He definitely didn't help with the NMT fiasco, though.
