Raymond: The Hot Topic!

He was my first camper so that's that. If I'm going to be brutally honest. I dislike him, But you need villagers you dislike, eventually he'll grow on me. That's why I find it weird how people on here are very picky about their villagers, If you cherry picked all of your villagers based on you liking them, it leads to a very boring dynamic of a town. Raymond's smug aura tilts me to no end but it adds to the town I guess

I like him, I think he's cute, I like the office aesthetic and the little details like his little teeth when he smiles. I'm not going to invite him to my island though, my favourite smug is Kyle and I have my villagers all planned out. Still, a very cute villager, can't let other people's opinions decide yours

I love him, then again I love the smug personality completely. It’s favourite for me even above lazy villagers. I love that he lives in a little office, I love his cute little glasses and his different coloured eyes. I just find him adorable. I hadn’t really expected everybody else to feel the exact same haha so when I wanted to get him I just island hopped for 400+ islands before I found him. I also have Marshal and honestly I’m considering sending my beloved Chief away so I can get Julian too. I just loved the smugs in new leaf and I love them even more this game

I really enjoy the smugs. I don't know if any one personality is my favorite but my town wouldn't be complete without them. I do like the design of many of them too! I don't think I would have been brave enough to island hop for him but I'm glad you did eventually get one of your dreamies since you put a lot of time and effort into it! I'm just not patient enough for it haha

i like him & most cat villagers! he has a cool classy design. i did try to do some island hopping to find him, but picked up other cute villagers along the way instead haha. i'd like to have him on my island eventually

I feel like that's a nice way of doing things. Picking up other cuties along the way probably makes it feel a little less painful when you don't get them right away!

I do agree that you probably need to have some villagers that you didn't hand pick to mix things up a little but I still hand picked mine, except for Fuschia. She was one of my starters and I decided I really love her! I try to get my variety out of having every personality and different animals though. Thanks for sharing!

I wouldn’t mind him if he goes to live on my island although I’m not looking for him particularly. Neither will I pay insanely high amounts of bells or NMTs for him because he’s new, I’ve never had him and I’m not even sure if we’ll “vibe”. I won’t risk hard earned miles or money with someone who I could potentially not end up liking.

Good for you for doing what makes you happy! I focus on whatever villagers makemake happy and whatever villagers I like. If other people like them too, that's cool because I want my favorite villagers to be liked but unfortunately it isn't always that way haha. I have some villagers that are popular and some that aren't, but I love them and that's what I care about!

I can understand that! No matter how badly I want a villager, I wouldn't stress about paying a ton of any form of money for them. It isn't worth it to me. If it's a small price I could afford though, or a fair trade, or if I can find them myself then that's better for me!

Not a fan of him, the shade of grey matched with those eyes reminds me of a dirty carpet. Also I don't really like how one villager has so much hype, he will always be associated with the sob stories I keep reading where people are begging for this cat villager and bringing up literally anything in hopes someone will give it to them.

In regards to people hating him, there's a trend where if something is popular, in an effort to make themselves feel "different and cool and edgy", people will boldly claim dislike for the thing whether they truly feel that way or not. They are just trying to make it seem like they aren't following the crowd. (not pointing any fingers at anyone, just explaining a bit of psychology there)

I think he looks pretty cute. He's not one of my permanent 10 villagers or anything, but I can't say I dislike him. If I ran into him by accident I'd probably be happy to keep him around a little while. But Mairen is quite fond of cats in general so I may be a little biased.

I love him so much, ever since the day he was revealed. I’m lucky to have found him on an island after 3 horrible weeks of grinding tickets every day but that’s only made me love and appreciate him even more.

He is definitely one of my 10 favorite villagers of all time and one of the few smugs I like.

i like him a lot, my favourite thing about him is his little fangs when he talks or grins! i'm planning on giving him that dracula shirt thing around halloween time

I don't like him, uh, but it's nothing to do with Raymond in particular - I just don't like the smug personality in New Horizons.

Spoiler: of course I'm going to try justify it...

When I started my game I was pretty "lucky" to have gotten Marshal when I visited an island randomly, he was one of the first three villagers I invited into my town - but when he opened with something like "I just know you're doing to love having me around!" and it just felt so forced. Like Nintendo acknowleding that they were the most popular villager type in New Leaf and turning them into a walking joke of themselves. I dunno, just my opinion - they were much cooler in New Leaf, and if Raymond was in New Leaf he'd have been a favourite, but they butchered the personality in NH.

My feelings about him can pretty much be summed up with:

I mean he's cute and all, but so are most of the other villagers. I don't judge, though.

Unless people only want him because it's "in fashion" to want him. Then I judge.

Not gonna lie I mainly got him for prideful reasons island hopping almost 300 times. Sherb was and is my current favorite.

That being said I did take some sweet shots and his design has kinda won over my heart. So he's somewhere in my top ten now.
