Currently, I have 9 villagers. However, I just invited a villager to come live in my town, Sapphire. If I go to someone else's town or vice versa, can I still pick up a void villager? Or will that be overrode by the villager that I invited to move in?

If they said they're moving in, it's set in stone that they're taking position 10. The next day, you should see their plot in your town.
