Quick Question about Trees and Villager Plotting

So, my question is plain and simple: when a villager is plotting a house, and they do it within the 3x3 of the tree's area, is the tree deleted as if the middle square was invaded? Or is it more like when you first start the game and trees spawn against walls or touching each other? Lastly, if a tree was a sapling a day before and the villager planted a house next to it, does it die?

I hope for some quick responses because this will determine if the plot I just got with Cherry is worth keeping (she is one square off).

X - indicates Villager house

like this?

Yes, like that. What I am asking is that

where ! means a tree has already been previously planted.
Such that trees can be planted in the ! area of things when you begin the game, I am wondering if the plot can be planted amongst trees that are considered to already having existed without destroying them.

No, it will destroy all trees underneath it and touching it

And you are absolutely sure about this? I can almost attest with all my might that I have seen plots appearing directly along side a tree-line, but I no longer have the means to test this as I have reorganized nearly all of the trees throughout my town. I only have one original starting villager as well, so the trees touching his house coincide with the point of new plots vs current trees.

It kinda depends on how close the plot is to the tree. I don't think villagers can plot their house right next to a tree without destroying it. I could be totally wrong though.

That's the question I've been having. I want to say that it is impossible for the villager to plot it without destroying the tree, but I swear they can if the tree is already growing at the sides of the plot. I made the thread almost as a sort of poll in "Who wants to be a Bellionair", where I am currently asking the audience what they think the correct answer is. :P

Well, that makes it a fairly compelling negative. I'll let Cherry's plot settle in the place that it's currently in if this is the case. If one or two more people verify this as well. Not that I don't trust this opinion, but I just like a wide sample. ^-^ Thank you all for your current inputs. The way things are going, Cherry will be stuck where she is at the moment. (P.S. 3Dewdrops has the lucky 777 BTB~)

In my town, I have a place sectioned off for Cousteau/Sterling when they move in. You can dream of my town and see how the trees are placed. The trees that are touching or underneath the house will all get destroyed and saplings will be the same way. As long as there is space in between the trees and the expected plot, then nothing will happen. KitsuneNikki's diagram is pretty spot on in this case.

Alright, thank you all for your help! I was truly hoping that this wasn't the case, but it looks like I have no choice but to keep the selected plot for the punk-rock pooch. I will be keeping the thread open if anyone has anything to add, but again, thank you all for your input and you have been a big help.

From what I understand, Cherry has already plotted but her plot is touching some trees, right? In that case, I think that trees won't be removed when the house goes up since the plot is a preview of where the house will go and what trees will be removed. I could be wrong about this, since I've never paid attention to the trees around plots other than making sure that no important ones got cut down.
