It's Sweety again!

I just got into the stalk market and I'm thinking of opening my gates to others when I have a turnip spike. I don't know what to do though as I am really new to this. = v = On to my questions.

What if people don't tip or what if the tip is really bad? I'm nervous about people taking advantage of me and not tipping well, even though they've made a huge profit. Is it bad to want a nice tip? Should I make it known or is that just greedy?

Setting a price on the profit, is it just bad sales etiquette? I was on gameFAQS once and saw a person setting a 99k price for each turnip run from the train station to Re-Tail. A lot of people would be pissed about that, but I found that it was a smart idea. A profit for profit. I mean 99k compared to the millions one is making pales in comparison.

Setting a time limit for groups, is that a thing? I know some people buy a whole lockers worth of turnips and they have to do multiple runs. I feel it would be fair that groups have time limits so no one is left waiting for a really long time on one group. What's your stance on this?

Any tips on how to be a good host and not get ripped off?

I've never asked for a tip, and most who have come to my town to sell have left a pretty nice one (on average 500-600k each). I'm not sure if any haven't tipped, and only a few left just a small tip. I think you can set a price for tipping if you really want (personally, I wouldn't be mad, especially since I know how much time hosting can take), but in my experience, quite a few people tip nicely anyway.

I never thought about the time limit. It is kind of inconvenient to have one person left running back and forth from train station to retail while there are still other people who want to be added, and I think that would depend on the demand. If you have a lot of people, maybe set a time limit, but if there's only a few, just see how it's going. And also, maybe time and see how long a locker full takes to sell to get an idea of how much of a time limit to have?

Just a thought on tipping and sakes etiquette ... It is a lot of time invested on your part and also effort to organize and control groups coming in to sell ... I personally think that your visitors should really appreciate your hospitality and be generous in what they gift for the privilege! Nothing wrong in setting tip parameters ... Your time and effort should be worth something, right? :)

1.) I've never considered tipping mandatory? You're free to require a price or whatnot, but be clear about it if you're afraid of not getting paid for your service. Set a minimum or a percentage fee before you let people in. Tips are a gesture of gratitude, not business. Nothing's wrong with wanting bells, just be clear about it.

2.) Perhaps a time limit for someone to enter your town, yes, but not to exit your town. People take their time out of caution to not trample anything going back and forth.

In any case, do things however you're comfortable with. Just be clear, concise, friendly, and whatnot. Good luck!

That's good to hear that people tip nicely even without being told to. ; v ; I don't expect much, I just want to at least make enough for the time I've put in.

I would only be posting turnip spikes that are 550+. I know those spikes definitely attract a lot of people, so I thought of setting a 10 minute time limit per group to get as much people in and out.

Thank you! ; v ; I didn't think of it that way, I thought I was just being greedy. You have shined light upon me. /hallelujah chorus

I know that people will tip even if it isn't mandatory, but I'm worried that some will take advantage and be rude. Hosting turnip sales feels like a job by sitting around, staring at a screen, and ushering groups in. D: I want to at least make somewhat of a profit too.

Also, my town hasn't been set up yet, so everyone is free to run to Re-Tail (it's not that far from the train station anyway). I feel like 10 minutes would be fair, maybe a little longer, still not sure on the time though.

Thanks for the luck, I might need it on my first time hosting.

You might make more bells for your time spent if you let people sell their entire locker full of turnips. o:

In my experience opening my town to turnip sellers, 10% is usually about what veteran sellers tip. An entire locker is about 8-10mil, depending on price, so that's a gain of 800k-1mil. Letting a group of 3 people sell generally takes about 25 or 30 minutes, and tips almost always come after a person is done selling. Cutting off selling at a certain time might leave too little time for tip leaving.

Organizing new groups of people and adding FCs and letting them in all takes time. That is non-tipped time, if that makes sense. People are only tipping based on what profit they make.

Also, adding "tips are greatly appreciated" to your first post will also encourage people to tip without making it mandatory.

Not that this is exactly how you should run your selling sessions. Just some observations that might be useful to consider. (:

Best of luck with your turnip ventures!
