Hey, I got back into playing this game, after two years of not playing it. I'm curious about the amiibo update. It would be helpful, if someone could answer these questions.
What's the difference between amiibo cards and amiibo figures? What does Whisp do in all this? What's with amiibos moving into your town, is there a limit?
Thank you.

There's 2 main things you can do with amiibos in the update. First, there's a new campground area. There's a new NPC called Harvey who runs the campground. He sells things with these new things called MEOW coupons. Also, RVs can appear in the campground. The RV is sort of like having an animal temporarily living in your town (only for a day). Unlike the old campsite with tent, their RV is actually decorated. Also, you can order things from their RV to have for yourself with MEOW coupons.

You can scan amiibos to get RVs to show up in this campsite. The only amiibos that work with the RV function are the compatible amiibo figures (all of the Animal Crossing ones, Zelda, Splatoon, and the Japan Monster Hunter ones) and the newer Welcome Amiibo amiibo cards. The series 1-4 amiibo cards do not work with this at all.

The second primary function of amiibos is through Wisp. You will get a magic lamp item and once per day can scan an amiibo with Wisp. You can either get an item for free or have the character featured on the amiibo move in. If you want to have a character move in, this works with series 1-4 amiibo cards, the Welcome Amiibo amiibo cards, and Zelda/Splatoon/Monster Hunter amiibo figures (the figures get special new villagers). The Animal Crossing amiibo figures don't let you move anyone in.

There's only a few limits for amiibos moving on. First, it must be one of the ones that work (like I mentioned above). Second, you can only scan 1 card per day with Wisp. So if you already asked someone to move in with a card that day, you have to wait until another day. Third, you still have the 10 villagers per town limit. The good thing is, if you have 10 villagers, you will be asked if you want to kick someone out to make space for that character. If you say yes and pick a villager to move, that villager will immediately be in boxes status and will move out the next day. The same day that the old villager moved out (the day after you scanned the amiibo) the amiibo character will plot. The day after that, they will be moved in.
