Question about reactions/emotions

I have gotten 4 out of 5 of the smug reactions from Zell. I’m confused because the one I’m missing looks like it should be the first one to get. I have received the one you have to be beat friends for (showmanship), but not smirking.

Do you thing he will give me smirking, or am I going to need another smug villager to get that?

He will teach it to you eventually (as long as he's also outside). I also had an experience where I got Showmanship before Heartbreak.

I noticed that you need to stay outside long enough to get villagers to "ping" you though. But once they call you, it could either be asking for bug/fish, delivery, selling/buying items from you, asking for catchphrase/greeting, asking your interests, or reactions.

Try and do random stuff around your island, then run by Zell and see if he'll ping you. If not, do more random stuff and try again.

You don’t necessarily get them in the order listed, and you can definitely get the best friend reaction before a normal one! He’ll give the normal reaction to you eventually c:

Thanks. Glad to know this is somewhat normal. He just asked me for a rice grasshopper
