okay, so i've been looking at different videos on how to plot reset for a villager moving into your town, and i'm sort of confused

they all say that you need to create your second player to see if there's a plot in the town already, but it says that if you start as your mayor, and then going to create a second player it won't work

my question is... how am i supposed to guess when someone is about to move into my town?? can you only plot reset for villagers you adopt? and if so, how many days does it take for someone to be in boxes in their old town, to setting their plot in your town? i'm just really confused by this whole process, haha. thanks.

for your 2nd question; you can plot reset any villager like you're plot resetting your 9th villager or the villager that you just adopted from someones town/campsite.

im not sure about the 1st question and the 3rd question i couldnt understand so prob someone will tell you

well it just seems to me that you have to know exactly when the plot is going to pop up in your town, before you can see that it's there? and it just seems pretty random to me when people move into my town? so i don't know how i'm supposed to guess when to create that second player to do plot resetting if you have to do it before it gets placed the very first time... ugh.

well what i do is i keep track how many days after i adopted the villager so i can plot reset normally it takes 2 days after you adopted them for them to place their plot. they can also delay too. or maybe before you load up your mayor you should check if the plot is there 5 times (sometimes it wont appear in the first time).

if i'm time traveling to their move in date, is there a certain time that i should be checking with the new player, or does that part matter?

By move in date do you mean when the fences are placed or their house is placed?

oops sorry i havent played ac in a while but i know how to plot reset

oops, not the move in date but when the fences are set.

yeah you should make a new character on the day their fences are set. the day the fences are set you should have not load up your mayor obviously. but yes it is important to make a new character that day to check where their plot is. (if you dont like that plot you turn off you console and do the steps again)

it doesn't matter what time of day it is though when you're doing it?

thanks for all of the help by the way!

nope! it has to be after 6 am because yeah you know the new day starts at 6am and when you load up your mayor at like 5:50 am and you forgot you are plot resetting you cant do the plot reset anymore for that villager

welcome!

If you adopt a villager from another town, a new plot can appear the very next day but it can take more than one day. If you ask a villager from your campsite to move in, it usually takes two days before a plot will appear but it can also take more than that. So to be safe, I always start up a new character the day after I have adopted a villager or asked one from the campsite.

If you change the system date on your 3DS - then you can set the time to any time after 6am the day after adoption and start off right away with a new save file.

If you don't want to change the system date on your 3DS and want to ask Isabel to set the date instead, then you have to start the game with your mayor and set the time for 5:57 or 5:58 am on the day you want to start plot resetting. Once your mayor comes out of his/her house, save and quit. I usually wait two or three minutes and then start my game again, this time with a new save file - it will automatically be a bit after 6am (the game's time for setting up your town each day) by the time you go through the train ride.

Walk your new character through town to find a plot. If there is a plot and you are happy with its location, complete the registration process at town hall. If there is no plot, I usually complete the process anyway because it has happened to me in the past that there was no plot for my secondary character but one appeared when I loaded up my mayor. So no chances taken for me anymore, I just save with the new character. Of course, if there is a plot and you don't like its location, then you quit without saving and start all over again with a new save file until you are happy with the plot location.

Edited to add: If your town has 9 villagers, the 10th can come through adoption, campsite or streetpass/wifi. So if you go visiting another town while you have 9 villagers and that town has recently voided a villager (that is, a villager moved out without being adopted), then there is a chance that voided villager can move into your town. The day after a wifi visit would also be a good day to start up a new save file to see if you have acquired a villager through wifi.

You can still plot reset for random move ins. All you need to do is scope out the town with a new character every single day to see who it is and where they are. If nobody moves in just save with the new character and try again the next day. Sounds a bit tedious, but that's how you can deal with the automatic move ins.
