Question about obtaining villager photo’s

Hi there,

I’ve been playing ACNH since release and trying to obtain villager photo’s. I didn’t really give my villagers many gifts, because I don’t like cluttering their house and like houses of some of my villagers to stay original. Is there any way to obtain photo’s without cluttering their house with (random) gifts?

I’m also wondering if they can still send you a photo with a goodbye letter when you let them move, like they did in New Leaf?

They can't display wall mounted items so an iron lamp or a hanging terrarium a day might do the trick. It needs to be gift wrapped.

Yes, this. It doesn't need to be wrapped, but does give you an additional friendship point.

If you're at a place where they've asked you to change their catchphrase, then you're in the zone where they could gift you a photo in return for a gift (10.6% chance). What I did was if they didn't gift me their photo in exchange, I hit the Home menu, then close software (before it had a chance to autosave). I then fired it up again, reengaged the villager, and saw what they gave me in return. If it wasn't the photo, I did the same process until they did. I was able to obtain the final three pictures I wanted in one day, all within a 30-minute window.

Ahhh, wow yeah! Helps me out a lot. A lot of my villagers have asked me to change their catchphrase, so I must be close to getting one! Going to craft Rosie something and going to try resetting until I get my first picture!

Also to weigh in, you could also gift non-native fruit which is another alternative as they obviously won't be able to display that. And as previously mentioned, it's a good idea to gift wrap them as an extra bonus.

I kept wrapping fruit to give in my villagers as they'll never display it in their house. As someone already said on here, you don't need to wrap and gift the things to them. It does, however, increase your friendship slightly more and in the longer run, will help you get their photos quickly (though rng is still involved in this).

I did the fruit method, and clothes for a few where I could find clothes I liked better (I'm looking at you, Portia) and got a fair few photos already.

Good to know non-native fruit is also a possibility. I wasn’t sure if it was “expensive” enough to get a photo for in return. There has been circulating some false information I guess. Kind of got lost there!

I gift my residents non-native fruit and shells all the time, and I've gotten four photos so far, and I'm working on the other 6.
