question about HHA theme challenge!

do items that aren't associated with your chosen theme contribute towards the points total at all?
thinking of moving some of my villager pictures to the basement to make space for other items on my tables and i'm wondering if it will bring down my score at all?

If they are friends then yes they should - to clarify, if they have given you their picture and are still living in your town then they do contribute to the amount of points even when doing the HHA challenge. Think of them as neutral points. They'll fit any theme.

Villager pictures shouldn't bring down your score, it's a pretty neutral thing to place in your house.

Also, basement isn't counted with your HHA score.

i know it's not that's why i was gonna put them down there
my question wasn't whether they'd bring down my score but more do they add to it
or do you only get points for items that correspond to the theme, and everything else just isn't counted?

Villager picture worth more points if the villager's birthday is of this month. For example Bruce's birthday is on May 26th. So Bruce's picture will be worth more points during the month of May (7,777 points). Normally from June-April his picture is only 3,200 points.
Also lucky items are 7,777 points.
My advises for getting the complete gold exterior are:
-Do not have an item furniture (example: notebook, bonsai) on the ground. Place them on tables.
-Do not have an item face the wall
-Do not block off an item. for example a chair is sealed off in a corner and the player cannot gain access to it. You have to make sure your player can access every item on display.
