So today was Quillson's birthday. I looked it up on Thonky and flower pop carpet was listed as something safe and orange that he would enjoy. So I had a spare one on hand so I gave it to him...but he didn't seem especially pleased with it. As a matter of fact, he just gave me a sort of disappointed "Oh...so you chose this. Thanks". ;-; Why didn't he like it??

I did the same thing on Curly's birthday and gave him a fire hydrant. He loved it and told me that our friendship increased a lot because of it. Why didn't Quillson react the same way?

Villagers care about what items you give them?

This is news to me.
Yeah they do but I don't quite understand why.

I wonder about the OP's question myself. I have a feeling it has something to do with how "rare" the item is, but I'm not sure.

Well I mean, I don't think the fire hydrant is exactly rare. I spent ages on TBT trying to buy Birthday Shades for Fuchsia's birthday...so I take it that those are extremely rare. They're the only item listed as her favorite style and color. But she was only mildly impressed it seemed : / Did Curly just like me more to begin with? I mean, I have their villager pictures and whatnot, it's not like they hate me.

I wonder if they like the item more if they can actually use it? A fire hydrant is a furniture item that they can actually use, but carpets and accessories are not. Either that, or Thonky is just incorrect about some items, which wouldn't surprise me.

Hmmm that's so strange. I haven't a clue then.

;-; Thonky why you fail me...

Hiya. I've been using the Thonky birthday guide for a year now, and from my experience the only gift suggestions that actually get the "wow" response are furniture and shirts. Like a previous poster has suggested, gifts that villagers can't actually use, like wallpapers/floors/accessories, don't seem to go down well, unfortunately. I think Thonky lists those items because they fall under the right theme and/or colour, but only furniture and shirts actually work. It's really annoying because some villagers (like your Fuchsia) only have accessories or wallpapers as their 'perfect match' gift, but they never seem impressed with them!!! Hope that helps anyway, it's just my observations ^_^

EDIT: shirts obviously work, d'oh, but accessories like hats and glasses don't. Sorry, I didn't write any of that well, more coffee needed!

Oh no :( I was afraid of that...thank you so much for your response.

You're very welcome, even though I gave you bad news, lol. I had the same thing with Tex, his only two perfect gift items are a Gracie tiger jacket, and funky glasses. I cheaped out last year and got him the glasses and he hated them. BUT to this day he still has them in his house, so I'm guessing he wears them when I'm not looking ^_^

I guess with these kind of villagers we'll have to pick something from the second choice and hope they don't totally hate it, because it actually sucks when they act so disappointed!! I usually pick a nice looking shirt, because they always change into it right away when they open it up at the party ^_^
