I have a question about the value of the supposed rules and guidelines on this forum.

My discussion thread was closed without any reply nor notification nor reason. Nothing in these "rules and guidelines" validates a lock. The ones who didn't follow them are the posters who kept going off-topic. My discussion thread should not be the one suffering due to many off-topic replies that don't contribute anything to the subject of the thread. Some posters even admitted going off-topic so why aren't those replies dealt with?

Respecting Others
Several posters show no respect to the subject of the thread and acted like my discussion thread was rubbish.

Post Quality
Half of the posts made don't contribute anything to the subject of the thread. Many are even replied to other off-topic replies which lead to more off-topic replies.

Please re-open my thread so others can join in the discussion and share their opinions about it.

I think the problem with your thread is that your opinion was stupid. "Ruffian" is in no way offensive and no one else thinks it is. It's really the equivalent of saying that the Piggy Bank in Animal Crossing is offensive because it represents the worthlessness of pigs in real life, and that they have big noses and hold money which adheres to the racial stereotypes of Jewish people, therefore calling Jewish people pigs.

Honestly, I don't think there's many, if any at all, off-topic posts in that thread. They're mostly people's opinions on your main post, which is in fact more on-topic.

I don't think it's disrespect either, it's called an opinion.

I can spot only one off-topic post.

How can one's opinion be stupid? If you deem it stupid that is your free choice, but it's not a valid reason to close a discussion. At least not according to these forum rules and guidelines. Several posters agree that the game could have done more to prevent certain words in phrases.

I'd still like to know the reason why the thread was locked. I didn't get any notification nor warning nor was there a reply left with a reason.

Judging by all the replies in your discussion thread, most people are thinking the same way. They're sharing their opinion about what they think about it -- I think you get the general consensus (the topic was a joke).

Perhaps you're analyzing the game a little too much (lol). If you think the pre-set phrases are terrible, I suggest you look at what people can input as catchphrases/etc. If the word Ruffian promotes ACNL bad behaviour, I suppose me playing Brain Age all day could make me a genius.

Sometimes threads are closed with no post but I can give you one if you'd like.

The main reason why it was closed was because most of the posts are of ill quality. Most of the posts involved in your thread were sarcastic and/or didn't add anything to your discussion. There were enough sarcastic remarks to justify the closing of the thread.

While moderators can and usually delete posts that don't have anything to do with a thread, it is sometimes easier to close a thread than if they have to prune over half the thread.

All in all it didn't make sense and people only made that more obvious. It had no purpose other than to attract "funny" people so that they can leave a trail of sarcastic posts. It's pretty obvious once you go through 4 pages of it.

Honestly, it seemed to me that most of the posters were not sure if the OP was being serious or sarcastic. I think that the posts reflect that by going back and forth between serious and sarcastic. People weren't sure which was the proper way to respond to OP. At least that's what it seemed like to me.

Dude, the majority of posts in that thread weren't anything pertaining to actual discussion at all.

And much as you may hate it, begging people to stop when the overwhelming majority of posts are like that isn't going to suddenly spark any real discussion. All it will do at best is cause the thread to quickly die.

The thread's entire livelihood was solely based on non-discussion and that was never going to change from what I witnessed. Sorry, but that's just how it was and showcases pretty clearly how locking it was honestly for the best.

If I recall, there's actually more than rule violations that can result in a thread being locked.

"Valid Report Uses:
- Rule Violations
- Escalating Arguments
- Request Thread Locks, Moves, or Title Changes"

To be fair, that post did have some tension building up between users; in my opinion. It was probably for the best to avoid hurt feelings and arguments within the community by closing it down.

Calling someone a Ruffian is offensive :p

Closing, this isn't a thread to discuss the original threads topic
