I've seen people put villagers in lines and I want to know a detailed explanation on the process for doing that. I know you have to put path down. how much path? and how big is a villagers house? anyone who has done this please explain thank you

a villagers house is 3x3, put paths all around where you want your villagers to be.
you have to put paths literally everywhere, every 3x3 space.
Its very tedious, but plot resetting helps >3<

A villager's house is 3x3 tiles, so you basically have to put down enough path that you don't have any 3x3 patches where a villager could put down a plot where you don't want it. Personally, I used a prohibition circle for the extra patterns, but you could also look for something nice like a flower patch or something, so that it blends in.

I would still start with a new character, though, when you have a villager moving in, like what you do for plot resetting. Especially in the beginning, since you'll probably miss a few spots.

Yeah basically I outline a 3x3 space where I want the villager to go in design (and i leave a space for where in front of the door is for good measure but that's probably not needed) and then I checker MY ENTIRE TOWN so that there isn't a single open 3x3 space, it's all spaces of 1 or 2. And I mean every possible 3x3 space. Because if you're trying to get your houses in a row, the game isn't gonna like putting them so close together so if there's any secluded 3x3 space it's gonna try to stick them there first, in my experience.

When all the ground is checkered, I TT to about 5:55am of the day they're supposed to move in with my mayor, then quit and wait a few minutes so i know the clock has passed 6am and start creating new save files. I check the spots where I want the house to go and if it's not there i exit to the homescreen without saving and start another new safe file. Sometimes the house goes where I want the first try (it's happened once before) and other times it's taken me hours because 1. once I accidentally left some places in town where i checkered wrong and there were 3x3 spaces or 2. tbh sometimes the game will occasionally set the plot on top of designs anyway.

If it's taking me a really long time and really not going where i want and i see it keeps going in about the same place, i check that space (if the plot didn't go there) on the new save file and see if I accidentally left a 3x3. If I did, I set the DS's clock back a few hours, go back in with my mayor and fix it LOL then TT in game back to 5:55 and start over again :')

I hope all that makes sense

I also found this really old thread while googling that kinda helps and gave info that i never really knew before?? I'm not sure if it's 100% right and idek when the WA update came out and if this post was before that/if things have changed since then, but it's something i at least sort of keep in mind anyway just in case (link)

So something also worth nothing that you'll see in the graphics of that post i linked you is that you cant leave only one space between two houses or other things, it's gotta be two spaces to account for that little halo of needed buffer space around both structures. If that makes sense (sorry this is really long and detailed)

And don't ever go by what the title screen looks like. Sometimes you'll see the plot in the opening screen and it will look perfect, but 9 tines out of 10, if you go into the game, the plot will be in a totally different place. Safest to always go with a new save file when you're expecting a plot.

Most of the time when you see villagers in a perfect straight line, the person is probably hacking. Not saying it’s impossible to get them in a perfectly straight line, but it’s pretty hard. A way to get a villager where you want to go is plot setting, you basically load up a new character the day you think someone is moving in, and if you don’t like the space, you turn off your game and repeat the process until you are satisfied with their location. I’ve tried this method twice and failed, I’m pretty sure I was doing it on the wrong day lol. Hopefully if you try this it works for you though! :)

I was able to put (hmm squeeze in lol) the villager houses in that tiny island on the east part of my map by just doing the path trick with the help of plot resetting. It wasn't that hard. I'd say, tedious, when you're about to start covering your town with paths the first time but things becomes easier after that. You just need to be a little more patient when plot resetting and most importantly, being perfectly aware when talking about the space that you need in between houses and stuff (if it's near the river, pwp). It doesn't end with just making 3x3 spots lol. I could say, it is drastically much more convenient than doing it pre-amiibo update. At least you have an idea where they're gonna go unlike before (or when you don't put patterns) when everything is random.
