Mandatory if you want to play online or redeem Diancie.
Also for those in the dark or forgetful, the Super Sized Pumpkaboo event ends the 31st so be sure to get that off of Nintendo Wi-Fi just searching for a gift via Internet.
The Shiny Gengar (US) event ended Sunday the 26th, though I believe the codes are still redeemable if you manage to grab a hold of whatever remains from Gamestop assuming they haven't tossed them.
Diancie is also available at US Gamestop as of the 27th, runs until November 16th* I believe.
These events do not require a purchase or pre-order at Gamestop. If your Gamestop requires it, tell them Pokemon.com said no purchase necessary, their Facebook page said no purchase necessary, and Gamestop Customer Service (1 (800) 883-8895) said no purchase necessary. Worse comes to worse, threaten to report them to Corporate or have them talk to Customer Service.
Oh and a dual pack for Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire (NA?) is available via Amazon and Best Buy. Gives you both games and 200 potions (100 potions for each game), but the price is $79.95 so you're not really saving any money. Personally I think the Gamestop Poster is better or the Toys R Us Mega Charizard Plushies.
Sorry if this is mostly US centric, I haven't kept up with EU/AU events. If someone knows them all, kindly post below or let me know so I can edit them in! o:

1.3 details from Serebii.net
Following the release of the Version 1.3 patch last night, one of the small features that have been added has been confirmed. In addition to various bugfixes, such as a fix regarding Vivillon's image not properly appearing in Friend Safari's menus, the patch now fixes various special animations for when Pok?Balls open on trying to capture a Pok?mon or sending one in battle. Previously, these animations could be seen in battle, but not when you sent out your first Pok?mon. Now, these will always appear when they are your first Pok?mon sent in battle
