I did not know this!!! I found out about this a couple a days ago... why didn't I know this...
Of course I already have a PS1 but it's not plugged in most the time now. Another thing, ALL PS3's can play PS1 discs...

Did anyone else not know this? Or am I the only stupid PS3 owner who didn't know this... Don't answer that... lol.

i knew this, have done it a few times
you can buy an adapter to use your old memory cards, back them up.. or just partition a bit of your ps3 hard drive to make a memory card, nbd.

when i read the title i thought you meant ps2

I knew this years ago when I got my PS3, it says it on the box. I play PS1 games on it all the time.

All PS3 Consoles will play PS1 Games, it's just the 60GB that will play PS2 Games as well.

I own a 60GB PS3 and my cousin owns a 40GB PS3.

The old 80 GB model plays ps2 games as well, however it uses emulation software instead of an actual system to do it, which makes some games not work and just play really badly.

Is the 60GB still the best for emulation zr388?

If anyone is having issues with how the graphics looks for their PS1 games, or for those lucky few, the PS2 games, turn on the smoothing option. Makes it look better.

Which makes it weird that some cannot play PS2 discs, although it gives you the option to portion the system for a PS2 memory card.
it isn't really that odd

the original ps3 could, but it was costing sony too much to put in a secondary processor/innards to play ps2 games (as emulating the ps2 wasn't solid enough i assume), so they cut it in order to increase their profits. the ps1 emulation is easy enough, as it's what, 10 years old at least?

that the partition option is still available on the firmware is due to the older ps3's using the same firmware you use on your new ps3. all ps3's get updated with the same stuff, so the option is there for you, even though your hardware doesn't support it.

you can still partition the hard drive to make a ps1 memory card if you wanna play some ps1 games, but no ps3's are being manufactured to play ps2 games anymore. tough luck for those who didn't get the super beefy expensive one. like me.
