Hey guys, I?m having a bit of a problem growing hybrids in my town. I only get pink and orange, and thats all I?ve ever gotten. I do time travel, but only by hours/days because I?ve done all i wanted in my town for the day.
I have the beautiful town ordinance in effect, a perfect town status, a good setup of flowers, and 4 jacobs ladders. I know which combinations make which colors, so thats not a problem.
Does anybody know why I?m not getting any different hybrids?
Hybrids are not guaranteed. Just because of placement and stuff. It's still random. Just gotta keep watering and hoping more will pop up. I have mine in breeding pairs in the "right" order to have them in to maximize breeding potential, but even then, it's not guaranteed to work 100% of the time each day :<
The best thing to do, to increase the chances is to place same colour hybrid pairs to make more hyrbids, I never rely on getting my own hybrids from normal flowers, although they occasionally do appear, I usually buy or trade for a pair of the hybrid I want to grow, put them in a diagonal line pairing (although I believe the straight pair should work too but I hear diagonal is slightly better) and then water every day even when they don't need it. I get a lot more doing this, it's just important to make sure you have enough spaces around the pair that they could generate in many places and to remember to water every day no matter what.
I have over 45 hybrids... 4 out of those are black and the rest are pink/orange. Well, I do have 2 blue lilies I think? or the other new flower. whichever one has purple seeds you can buy that are not hybrids. Yeah I need more. I need PURPLE ROSES. Then, I can possibly try my luck for second generation red roses, then blues
If you don't want anymore pinks or orange I'd store all those flower pairs and all those hybrids in an alt character so you can focus instead on the colours you want. For example, if you have a town filled with nothing but white roses your chances of getting purple roses are higher than a town with red, yellow, pink and white roses.
Are you watering all of your flowers? I used to water all of mine and I'd constantly get pink cosmos and nothing else. So I started to only water this one patch of white pansies and now I have 4 blue ones in the space of 2 days.
no, i don’t water all of my flowers, but i did water a patch of white pansies and when i looked the nest day, i had two blue ones! they kind of boosted my hopes for more hybrids haha

I done a fair bit of experimenting with hybrids before deleting my old town, and while I TT through July with my new one, and I've noted a few things.
Already known, but some hybrids are just ridiculously rare. White carnations, purple pansies and blue roses especially. - Pretty sure I am doing something wrong with the latter 2 as all my hybrid reds breed nothing but more reds. And my 3x3 grid of blue and hybrid red pansies grew hugely out of hand (there are now 36ish of them) and not a purple in sight.
More hybrids appear without beautiful ordinance than with it. ~ In general. I have 2 towns, 1 was a night owl town, the other was set to beautiful. The one set to beautiful (always watered) in the space of 3 (very rainy) weeks got less than half the hybrids my night owl town got (only sometimes watered).
Beautiful town + rain + watering flowers in 1 day = 0 hybrids. - maybe not always but the 8 days I checked, all watered flowers did not breed, a couple I didn't water bred. - Otherwise rain seems to have no effect.
Watering only hybrid flowers, gives a far higher chance of more hybrids than watering everything. - I put 2 blue pansies and 2 purple roses in my new town when I started it and only watered those (and their offspring) for 8-10 days. By the end of that I had 17 blue pansies and 10 purple roses. ~ repeated this with black tulips and got 12 in 7 days. I definitely reccomend this if you have a way to store all your other flowers/a spare town and have 2 of the desired flower already.
And lastly, all possible grandparent flower combinations are possible through any hybrids. A purple rose (whitexwhite parent) and a orange rose (redxyellow parent) managed to produce pink and white roses while I was doing this.
I'm sure this clears up nothing. xP Just recognise that the plants have more of a mind of their own than the animals in this game. xP
