Accidentally got my Switch lite wet last night, I have sound (well I can hear it taking a screenshot when I press that button) but screen is totally black. Is there any hope here or have I gone and lost my Switch and entire AC world? That would be SO typical a day before the backup update comes out :( I'm wondering if there's a way I'd be able to either connect my Switch lite to a monitor if there's some form of HDMI cable that'd work? Even if it's not all that playable, at least it might allow me to then back up my island to play again when I can afford a new console? Or if there's some way I can get the data off the Switch to move forward to a future console? Argh I'm so angry with myself, I got so lucky with this world, didn't need to reset once got my map first time and have really loved it, river openings RS position airport colour I was so happy with and was just starting to come together as a lovely island. I know it's my fault and I should have been more careful, I could almost deal with the loss of the console as even though it's not cheap and I love it, I'll be able to replace it at some point even if I have to wait for a birthday/christmas to have the money... the island is totally irreplaceable :( Sorry to rant but hopefully you can understand my pain! Fingers crossed there's something I can do?! Please and thanks for any help!!

I have replaced my Wii U when the touch screen was not working and the screen was black. It took me longer than the tutorial suggested, but I got it working. I never attempted a Switch screen. Pull out the SD card after you take some more screenshots and then put it in your computer to see if the images are actually saving something like the Switch's home menu. It's a start if it is and isn't just showing some kind of error.

I don’t have any advice for you but want to offer my sympathies for what you are experiencing. The fact that you are hearing something coming from the switch sounds hopeful. And not to sound like an old, out of touch grandma (which I am except for the grandma part), have you tried putting your switch in A bag of rice? I’ve always heard that will help dry out cellphones so it might work here.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that.

I had the same happen with a phone once. I turned it completely off, put it in a container with rice (apparently this soaks up moisture) and left it in the airing cupboard overnight. Thankfully it did start to work again. Could be worth a try?

Thanks so much everyone you're always so kind on here! And great idea about the SD card, will try that and report back! I do have some rice so if it's still worth trying I can (heard miracles about that actually, not sounding old or out of touch at all!) but as mentioned I fear I left it too late. Although I guess if I can't use it anyway, anything's worth trying! Regarding how wet it got, it wasn't fully submerged but sitting in a puddle (screen up, I think) and I don't know how long for. Thanks all... I'm looking online and seeing Nintendo have made it impossible to connect to a TV but wondering if any way to connect it to a laptop, or get the data off it...

Don't turn the switch on. Dry it completely first. It happened to my phone and my 3DS too. I put it in a bag of rice and left it there until I'm sure it has dried completely. Usually more than 1 day. They are still working until now, thank God.

Unfortunately there's no cable that would be able to hook your Lite up to a monitor since the bottom port isn't made for video output. The fact that you have sound makes it hopeful that some of the inner components are working.

If the rice doesn't work, and the screenshot idea that was recommended above does work, you should look into replacing the screen as that may have been the only part majorly damaged. You might be able to find a replacement part online for not too expensive if you trust yourself to DIY. If it seems like that's the only part that went bad, (and I hope it was!) you should be fine getting it replaced and still retaining your saved data.

you may be able to, with the help of someone here maybe, get to the backup screen even without seeing the video. someone could explain what’s on the screen. if you need keyboard input this could be extremely tedious. i think me and my fiancé did something similar once to fix an issue with our ps3 years ago. then hopefully on your new switch you’d be able to reupload it?

Was just thinking this. All you need is someone to guide you through the update screen and if needed to create backup data. :)

I would put it in rice immediately and call Nintendo and see what they say to do... just curious will u tell us how it ended up in a puddle?

I don't believe it... it's working!!! Before posting here I got home from work and stuck the Switch out on the patio in the sun, very shortly before posting here - I just went back out as was going to try the SD card in my laptop to see if screenshots were working, and screen came on! Then went straight back off but thinking I turned it off by accident as the 'sleep power off etc' screen was showing as put it on charge but battery not dead and it's working!! Ahhh I'm so grateful to the great Nintendo in the sky hahah. Lol Lotusblossom don't blame you for the curiosity but not something I'm comfortable talking about publicly (why did I put my real name on here haha) - if it's bugging you that much you're welcome to PM me although I promise it's not exciting :P Thanks so much everyone, it's always lovely to know I have a wonderful community to turn to as well as a wonderful game <3

I would suggest putting it in rice immediately for a day or two for it to absorb most of the water. See if the screen turn on then. If not but you still hear the sound I would recommend bringing it to a RELIABLE technician to replace the screen. If that doesn't work I recommend a data recovery center to extract the information.

I would NOT turn on the switch within these two days or possibly longer. Corrosion will happen rapidly if not dried correctly or electrical signal is sent to the component.

that's great that it's working again! I would be careful with placing electronics/screens in the sun though :0

I would still be careful though and the first day or so not spend too long playing on it..

Update - okay so the minute I went to turn the volume up it went straight down to 0 and won't budge, if I press volume up it recognises the press but seems to think I'm turning it down! However I can work with that and likely a much easier fix if it won't return to normal! Just happy to have my world... on a totally unrelated note, anyone know what time on the 30th this backup update comes out?!? Thanks all

I'd still turn it off completely and let it dry out fully in rice / airing cupboard if I were you.
