I remember on TBT1.0 someone (forgot who) was arguing with me that education in America is not that bad. Anyway, this was on Reddit today, so I thought I'd post it.

I saw this on Reddit, too. While I don't think that any general conclusions about America's educational system can be drawn from this, it does crystallize what I think is the main problem with school-aged kids these days: the parents.

Yep I personally think that parents who lack a role in their kids life create unruly abominations that aspire to be fry cooks... Nothing wrong with being a fry cook but I don't think it should be what you aspire to do, at least do something in your spare time, like write, or paint, or something!

This rule is of course not always true, but kids who don't have a role model to imitate, will tend to imitate stupidity, partially cause they are never told not to.

The system is fine if you go with it.
But if you really don't want to learn, theres very little that can be done force you.

A good chunk of parents are mentally deficient and are not fit to have children. They dump them into ruthless, intellectually-barren social circles in the hope that somebody else will "take care of them". Guess what, idiots, feeding the kid isn't your only responsibility. If you're not educated enough to a) provide a solid education for the child at home or b) have no interest in seeing your child become a well-rounded citizen, then you shouldn't have children. Simple as that.

This is not always true. Sometimes, kids learn to imitate something that isn't there when surrounded by stupidity. My mom is a great example. Her immediate family (i.e., mom + dad + sibling) are beyond description, and yet, she knew that their behavior was the opposite of model behavior. I guess some children have an innate understanding of these things.

we really don't need another one of those abortion topics, do we?.. no.. we don't..

@ second, i am reminded of some saying/quote that essentially says you are who your friends are/choose your friends wisely.. some BS like that. it's true, but your parents give you a foundation to be able to filter out the good and the bad.. picking good friends or whatnot. i dunno. /rambling.

I don't really think that it's the education system in America as much as the kids that are too damn stupid to take a responsible standpoint on their own education. For all of middle school I missed over 200 days. No, I'm not exaggerating. As soon as high school started however, I actually had a reason to want to go to school besides friends, I was genuinely interested in what was going on. Ironically, I had the problem in public school, but never charter school. I think it's just the fact that charter school is more intense, and I think it should be something that's more difficult to get into, and for the students that actually give a damn.

My mom is an English teacher whose students were never read to as children. And they can't differentiate plurals from singulars, and they have trouble with capitalization and grammar, etc. A few of them speak no English at all.

Ha, I found this pretty funny tbh, especially at the beginning with the double negative. "Didn't do Nothing" LOL
