Portal 2 is so much better than the original one. Heres why: It is longer. It has more puzzles. It has more story. It is harder. There is a Co-op. There are more characters. GLaDOS's voice sounds better. It has more humor. And there are more Ratman's dens.

I never played the first one, but I watched a Let's Play on youtube (: I think the first one was just some sort of demo, while the second one can be considered as a game. I loved exploring all the hidden rooms with scribbels on the walls <3 Still one of my favourite games (:

I definitely agree with the fact that Portal's puzzles are a lot more difficult than in Portal 2, although I think that is mostly because they focused a lot on the storyline in Portal 2 (like the test chambers being all derelict - in a way I think it limited with how much they could have done with the test chambers and the puzzles because they couldn't add many working or complex "contraptions" because well.. it'd remove the derelict, run down feel it has to it). Also idk, I found that maybe after playing Portal, I realised Portal 2 was a whole lot easier because I was a lot more used to it (in terms of controls and like... I found it easy to predict and work out each puzzle), as well as the puzzles being a bit easier. That being said, I enjoyed both games lots. I think I prefer Portal 2 more though because of the story element and I loved exploring it a lot more (lots of hidden stuff ^^).

Just loved the potato battery. Those sequences make me want to go back to the game all the time.

Had such a genuine adventure-feel to the second half of the game :-)

Loved them both, I prefer Portal 2 though. :)

I loved the humor in both of the games, it really made the game enjoyable. But, puzzle games have never been my cup of tea. Great game, though.

I played through all of the co-op on Portal 2, but not the actual single player game. The first game made me feel motion sickness so I could never beat it. Somehow I didn't feel that way on co-op, but that's because I made the other person do the flinging when necessary, since that's what made me feel sick in the first game.

I want to play through the single player. But motion sickness is HORRIBLE. It makes me feel terrible for the entire rest of the day whenever it kicks in.

They're both incredibly good ones, but I prefer the 1st one for some reason. :)
Probably it's mostly nostalgia. <3 But I also think it's way more surprising, and less "guided through" which made it trickier.
I really love both though.

I had TERRIBLE motion sickness when playing portal, and a couple of years later portal 2.
It really took some determination to get used to. I had NEVER gotten motion sickness from a game before.
At first I would feel sick all evening after playing like 10 minutes, but I was so determined to play it that my body ended up adjusting itself I guess, now I can play it with no problem. c:
But I iget where you're coming from, it's terrible to get motion sickness from a game.

I want to try Portal. Portal 2 is very fun. I love all of the stupid signs and the song in the credits is great. I also enjoy placing a portal on the floor and the ceiling and just falling through them. :)

I never got motion sick from Portal, but I can't play Mario Galaxy. The weird camera rotations are too much for me.

Omg the song in the credits in the first one will blow your mind, it's so much cooler than the one in the 2nd game. XD
You should totally play the first one. It's pretty cheap on Steam, so worth it.

Portal 2 easily makes it nto my top 5 games ever, if not 10.

Its funny
Glados is funny
Wheatley is funny
Cave is funny
everyone else is funny
its a brainteaser
its sciencey
features a woman as a playable character in an fps (something that was rare in 2011)
fun mechanics
dat co op mode
annoying glados in co op mode
chell, just chell becauase mentioned earlier
chell refusing to speak even though she can because she does not want to give satisfaction is cool and funny, and gives a reason fir her silence (unlike gordon freeman)

I played a bit of Portal 1, but have not tried Portal 2 yet. I've had the Portal Bundle for quite some time now, along with the Half-Life Complete Pack.

I really love the series, and I do wish there was a third. I have played though both, but never really had the chance to do much co-op.

Portal 2 has so much mystery and story and it makes Portal 1 feel like a test (no pun intended) or a demo of sorts. I think it was difficult; especially travelling throughout the test chambers.

While I love the game, there is something about it, and the Half Life games, that I just don't like. But it's not that I don't like the games; it's just something odd about them. The feeling isn't present in TF2, though

Problably due to quirks in the physics engine. HL2, Portal, and maybe the first TF are all based off of the same engine.

I know that, but there's just something that puts me off the games.
I don't know what it is, I enjoy them and i love them but I just feel like something's so off about it
I can't describe it I'm sorry

I think I've just thought of the most pathetic way to describe it but it's like
Sunday morning in the holidays/halfterm/break
you have every reason to not hate it
but for whatever reason there's something so wrong and off about it you can't like it but at the same time you do

It's difficult to say that Portal 2 is on the whole a better game. Of course the sequel is going to have better puzzles and story and whatnot; besides technology advances between the two releases, you have to consider that Portal wasn't even released as a standalone game (released with 2 other games on The Orange Box). As in, they didn't even consider the game to be worth selling on its own. Portal 2 didn't have to deal with that; the first game's success meant a lot of things for the sequel - better budget, no real risk since it was a known (and very popular) name, etc.

Disregarding all that... yeah, I enjoy Portal 2 more. Portal 1 does have some really great things going for it - for example, I'd say Portal 1 is one of the best games to play 'blind', but I'd say it doesn't have nearly as much replay value as the sequel since the puzzles are simpler and you already know the plot twist regarding the villain.

I played Portal 2 before I played the first game... I love them both but I prefer 2!

Dat Stephen Merchant voice in Wheatley omgosh. <3
