Pokémon Pokkén Tournament: Discussion and Speculation

The game and roster does look pretty nice so far, I can't wait for an international / Wii U release! I hope Jigglypuff and Mewtwo aren't playable because they have Smash and I'd like to see other Pok?mon to have a chance to shine.
Lucario, Blaziken, Suicune and Gardevoir look to be my favourites right now!

I hope for some other Pok?mon to show up that I like! Scizor, Gallade, Scolipede, Reuniclus and Bisharp all spring to mind but I am sure there are many more.

Jynx needs to be in the game

pokken

A trademark for Pokken Tournament was registered in Europe 2 days ago. It?s not clear from the trademark itself whether this for the arcade version or a possible Wii U port, but the former seems more likely. The trademark holder is the Pokemon Company, not Nintendo, who usually register the trademarks for the Pokemon games.

Also, the trademark mentions the following:

Near field communication (NFC) technology-enabled devices, namely, key chain tags, key chains, key fobs, key tags, key rings and key holders, and figurines, to facilitate the transmission and recording and exchange of video game content.

You might be inclined to think that this refers to amiibo, but in Japan, Pokken arcade machines also have NFC functionality with something called BANA Passport, a card where users can store saved game data and transfer them from one arcade machine to another.

Could this mean...more amiibo?!?!?!
Lucario is hard to find as it is

It's about damn time this gets announced for the Wii U.
I'm damn pumped and can't wait to get my hands on this title.
Also, what the hell. 700+ Pokemon and you give a character slot to a Pikachu Lucha Libre smh that could've been Hawlucha. :-(

But yeah, I hope the roster gets more meat.
Here's some Pokes I'd like to see in game:

Guys pls the only pokemon worthy of being in the game now is bidoof

I don't know why there aren't any dragon Pokemon as playable characters yet. If I could choose, Cherubi has always been my favourite. I like that snivy is in there though.

Does anyone know how the playstyle is supposed to work? Like is this like super smash bros where each character has a specific move set but can be customised, except you battle 1v1 in an arena?

And also is there any known online multiplayer element to this game? Sorry for all the questions, this is the first I've actually looked into this game once I heard it was on Wii u.

I suspect it's going to be similar to Smash Bros, but different as in it's more similar to Tekken, which is an arcade fighting game that there's arcade machines for in Japan. It will be 1v1 from what I've seen, but not on stages or 2D; more 3D and in open areas where you can move around with the characters more freely. I think how they handle moves will be similar to Smash Bros though, and I think they each have different final smashes as well.

Also, I'm not sure if there's online or not in this game, but I'd suspect so for it to become even more popular. I agree; there should be more dragon Pokemon as playable. I believe Garchomp or Salamence would make nice candidates. :)
