Day #4, Entry #4
Alright let's sit by the virtual fire as I prepare to write a novel regarding why I want this collectible and what Pokemon means to me in the most elaborate way possible.
I want the Pokeball collectible because, to put it plainly, I think it's cute and the fact that there's not many out there on this here forum makes me want it even more. That and it's like what, over 2k BTB now? There's no way in hell I can afford that anytime soon. You always want what's out of reach, right? However, another reason is because, well, Pokemon was my
life at one point. It's still part of it now to a degree, but not anything near what it used to be when I was a wee child in the ages of the early 00's. Seeing that collectible under people's username sparks the memories of that time, and it also makes me want to finally finish X already because geez, do I need to get back to that game.
But then I remember, my villagers in ACNL await me. The cycle continues.
I first played Pokemon Red when I was really young--something under ten years old. I was so excited to finally play the game everyone was talking about on my shiny new purple Gameboy Color. A very fond, and at the same time hilariously pathetic first memory of playing the game, is how I didn't know that you could leave the house. I remember booting up the game and walking around aimlessly inside the house, asking myself "is this really it?" It wasn't until around 20 minutes later did I stumble upon the carpet on accident to discover that yes, a world did exist outside the house.
My brother and I would always get the opposites of the game versions and try and be better than each other. I got Red, he got Blue. I got Gold, he got Silver. I got Sapphire, and he got Ruby. I think we shared Crystal, Emerald, and Yellow, though. I don't exactly remember how that worked out, but I do still have all of my old copies of the games--unfortunately, my Gold doesn't work anymore, and my favorite one of the franchise, Crystal, is nowhere to be found. Thank god for ROMs though, right? My brother and I were pretty competitive, and it was fun playing alongside him. He wasn't interested in Pokemon anymore after R/S, though. I liked Diamond, hated White (still unfinished), and am currently (trying to) play X. I also have Y because of that nifty free game thing you could redeem earlier this year, too. Not sure what I'm going to do on that one, though.
My brother and I would go to this store at least once a week with my dad to buy a pack of trading cards (although we just kind of collected them and didn't ever learn how to play with them--then again, who did?). After sifting through useless energy cards, we'd usually stumble across shinies and cards we could add to our Pokedex-themed binders to collect 'em all. I think my dad threw away those binders along with our abundance of plushies, though. Shame, really. I also remember the first episode of Pokemon I ever watched--when Ash battled Brock in his gym. After that, my brother and I got hooked, and we'd always wait patiently for more Pokemon to air along with all the other good ol' anime that was around back in the day.
I guess to end this tangent of my Pokepast, and to tl;dr a bit, I'd love the collectible because it's not only a coveted item, but a cute reminder of my childhood and how Pokemon was such a good chunk of it.
