So I asked Punchy to come to my town from my campsite and I time traveled very carefully day by day using the 3DS itself, starting up with a new villager each time just to make sure he didn't move in somewhere where I'd missed a spot.. I have two open 3x3 areas for him to move to.. I time traveled to the day he was to move in and apparently I'd missed a spot (which is likely because sometimes I'll accidentally erase patterns with my second character when trying to pick up my fruit) because he planted his house right in my lemon orchard. I did load up the game with a NEW character after time traveling... but I've reset 3 times now and he won't move spots!

Is this normal? Does it just take a few tries? The spots should be fine to move into, they are somewhat close to the river but at least a space away from it. I'm pretty sure it should be fine because one of the houses next to one of the open plots is only a single space from the river. And it's not close enough to any other houses or PWP (at least two spaces away).

This is really irritating and I don't want to get stuck with him in a stupid spot.

Can I time travel back a day and put a pattern down so he doesn't move there? Or will time traveling lock him into place?

Thanks.

Sadly time traveling will lock him into place. Time traveling backwards still means a day forward in most cases in the game for some reason. So go back a day, he'll stick.

I've actually spent all day with plot resetting Maple, she refused to budge one bit for the same reason, accidentally leaving another space open as well. After 12 hours, I gave in. But all the rest of my villagers have moved from place to place, but eventually land there. As long as there's space elsewhere, you can still hopefully get him there. So sadly, you'll just have to keep trying until he does.

Good luck!

Thanks. I luckily didn't try turning back the time. I'd read in another thread that you could do that, but I didn't try for fear that it wasn't true. I'm gonna keep resetting and hopefully he'll move soon. It's already 3 am here but my in game time is earlier (because I time traveled to a better time when I went to the next day) but hopefully I'll be able to get Punchy to move soon ahaha.

I just checked to see if this was true because I had seen several others on here say otherwise (talking about time traveling back a day and placing down patterns or PWPs), and I was scared to do it but apparently it's not true that it locks it in place! You can TT back to the day before the person is set to move in, place down patterns with your mayor (or other character) and then go back to the next day just fine.

Okay so now I filled in that area, but now Punchy is just overruling my path blocks and placing his house wherever he wants despite the fact that I have two perfectly good spaces open! I'll see if I'm able to add some pictures.

How strange those spots are definitely good spots. Are you sure you aren’t leaving any open spots? I never have problems plot setting villagers and usually when I do it’s because I have missed a spot that a pattern should of gone. When this happens just travel back and place them and then new character on the day of.

The first spot is probably too close to the fountain. I believe you would need at least one extra space between the fountain and the front of his house, but if you push the plot back it will be too close to the house behind it. Actually, it might already be too close. There has to be 3 spaces vertically between houses and I think you've only got two. Two spaces are good horizontally but not vertically.

I think the problem with your second plot is the bridge. Bridges have an area of something like 3-4 spaces where you can't place houses or pwps. I'm not certain of the exact amount because I haven't found any updated guides after the Welcome Amiibo update and I think it was reduced by a little. But diagonal bridges are more difficult to work around because the area they effectively block off is not a straight line.

So I think that's why the game is seeing both of those spots as invalid.

If you haven't started up an existing character on Punchy's move in day and you played the prior day, you can go back to the prior day and try setting up new plots. The game doesn't view this as time traveling because, as far as the game knows, you never left that day.

The fountain is too close in the first picture and also, you must have 3 spaces free in between houses vertically. The second seems like a valid spot though a little bit close to the bridge. I have houses that are 4 spaces away but starting from the front door so I guess yours should work having 2 spaces from the back. Keep trying.
