Playing new cartridge on the same 3DS?

I've bought a new ACNL cartridge for the same 3DS I use for my main town.
It only occurred to me to research AFTER buying it, whether or not it'll affect anything on my other cartridge?


Will the new cartridge play as new? Or will it play as if I'm playing my original cartridge?

Anyone know?

Playing with a new cartridge will allow you to start a new town. It will not affect your main town.

Each game card contains its own save data. If you get a new one, you get a new town to work with it.
One more thing you need to know is how ACNL handles SpotPass and StreetPass datas. The game card gets booted first after getting these datas will be transferred to that game card.

I have 3 games and 2 D.S's and swap and change without any bother.

It won't affect your other cartridge. You can have unlimited physical copies of the game, it's only the digital version that you can only have one of.

The only way that having two towns can be an issue is if you time travel on one of them using the 3DS clock and then forget to set it back to normal before playing your other town.

I play multiple games on one DS. You might want to mark the top of your cartridge somehow so you don't get them mixed up. I also swap them out on other DS's with no problem.
