When planting fruit trees, what are the requirements for growth? I planted many pear trees a couple days ago, and most of them are still on their "first phase." Someone told me to put them to spaces apart. Will this work?

I had the same problem with planting apples. I planted wayy to much and some them kept in the nursery phase. What I did is just shovel them and then plant them else where. They started growing :)

I wanted to create a neat "orchard" area, so I kept them in the same area. I'll wait and see if anyone has a definitive answer, but thanks for your help!I

@mentali I planted the pears one space apart though... 🤔

hmm maybe too close to the river or some buildings? I think they also have to be 1 space apart diagonally

Same I was creating an orchard too. I probably planted 30 apple trees. Some grew some did not. From what I heard theres a limited amount of trees that can grow in a given time. I just moved them back to my orchard area after they became adult apple trees. Also careful planting too much. I got warnings from Isabelle about my villagers getting lost in the woods cus of too much trees.

The time thing makes sense. For now, I moved each tree two spaces apart. I'll check tomorrow and see if more are growing.

@Fluuffy Some of trees grew today! Will more grow tomorrow?

I’m not entirely sure. For me, some didnt grew the next day again so I shoveled and move them again to another spot then they grew the next day. Move them back again to the area you want to once fully grown.I was definitely planting way too much in one day for sure.

Ok, I'll check tomorrow and if none grow I'll move them. Thank you!

yes they should be at least 1 space apart to grow
Does 1 space apart mean that two trees can share the same space, like this:
(X = ground, O = tree)
XXXXX
XOXOX
XXXXX

or they must each have their own space, like this:
XXXXXX
XOXXOX
XXXXXX

?

XXXXX
XOXOX
XXXXX

and diagonally:

XXX
XOX
XXX
XXO

I also think there’s a limit of trees you can plant in an area as well. I had oranges planted all around my town hall and while most of them grew, there was about 5 that didn’t. So I tested it and planted them somewhere else on the island and they grew, so I just moved the fully grown trees back to the space I had them originally. The same goes with flowers. I had to move the roses to grow and move them back just like the trees once they were fully grown.

in previous games there have been tree limits per area, that could be the case in new horizons as well.

If they more don't grow tomorrow, I'll move them and then move them back when they grow.

If tree growth is anything like it is in past games, there needs to be enough space that you can walk or run a full circle around your trees for them to grow properly. Also, if you find a golden spot where the tree might not grow (if you plan to grow money trees), you can dig up the freshly planted sapling and move it to another location no problem.

Best advice: Use your island's layout. If you haven't unlocked terraforming or have and haven't used it, go ahead and look for more open spaces on your island where there's room to grow trees. And if you do have terraforming and plan to use it, don't be afraid to experiment with changing the layout to make trees easier to grow.

Each 'acre' can only have so many trees within it. You've hit that limit, and any additional tree will no longer grow.

For a tree to be able to grow period, there must be an open full space in both directions horizontally and vertically plus there must be at least an open half space in all four diagonally adjacent spaces. If you try to grow too many trees in one area, they won't all grow, but you can transfer them in as long as the locations meet the criteria above.
