Was the Pokémon named Ditto after the expression or did the expression come from the Pokémon?

Before pokémon, there was a copy machine called a ditto machine. My mom grew up with them and told me about them. Now I wonder if the ditto machine was named after the expression or vice versa lol

Just the other night, I fell asleep to a 12 hour OoT walkthrough with zero Ads and no commentary. The best part is that I don't see Link aggressively rollin', so I'm not hatin'
