Pier Problem

I had seen pictures a few months ago of people putting custom designs on their long piers. I thought of one that works great with my island (Amity) and created it. I placed the design down and it looks great. I noticed however that fish are no longer spawning near the pier. There aren't any fish on the side or at the very end of the pier. I haven't had a fish there in weeks. I thought I was just missing them but I really spent some time looking for them and no fish are there. To make sure the custom design was the issue I actually removed the whole thing and within a few minutes there was a fish. I then placed the design back down and not one fish for days. The design consists of 14 blocks and covers the whole pier. I don't know if I can make it smaller but I'd be willing to try if I knew it would bring the fish back.

Does anyone else with a custom design on their pier have this problem? Is there a way to fix it that doesn't involve completely removing the design?

If this is some sort of glitch could someone please let me know how I can tell Nintendo about this? Thanks!

Hmm... this is really strange!
I don't have my entire pier covered but I do have a single tile design at the end of it as well as some items placed and I still get fish spawns regularly.
Do fish show up using bait at the pier still with your design in place?

This definitely feels like a glitch but hopefully someone can confirm for you!

idk. I never have fish spawn on mine unless I use bait and it hasn't had anything on it for the majority of my time playing (started in march).

Fish do show up if I use bait but it's weird not seeing them spawn around the pier. Having them spawn on their own made the area more organic feeling. I hope that makes sense.

I've been playing since release and up until I added the custom design fish spawned. I miss seeing them as it made the game feel more natural. I'm sorry fish don't spawn near your big pier. That seems odd as well.

I get the occasional fish spawn at my pier, no patterns on it. To be honest, they just don't spawn around the pier very frequently because they'd rather spawn in the ocean. The pier definitely feels 'built' for bait, rather than natural spawn.

As for your problem, if it is a glitch:

The only thing I can think that is going on is that when a pattern is placed on the pier, the 'data' tied to those 'tiles' that make up the pier are changed, and no longer act as a pier and fish don't spawn there because it would be too far away from the beach for an ocean fish to spawn.

I didn’t even know you could put designs on the dock, which is just as well. I couldn’t take this kind of pier pressure.

I'm thankful I can still use the bait but I was hoping someone who had a design on their pier might have an idea for a solution. Your thoughts on the type of glitch make a ton of sense! I hadn't really considered that adding the design sort of "canceled" out the pier. Thank you!

I didn’t even know you could put designs on the dock, which is just as well. I couldn’t take this kind of pier pressure.

I didn't know until I saw the pics of other players designs. I love that we're still learning new things about NH.

I definitely had fish spawn before I put the design down or I might not have though of it myself. The fish actually spawned pretty regularly throughout the day but now they don't spawn at all.

Thank you! I'm glad you like the design! I really love it and it really fits with my island so I don't want to get rid of it. I was hoping there might be a way to redesign it to get the fish back but I'm thinking that's not going to be possible. I miss the fish but I'm keeping the design.

Maybe the problem with mine is that it takes up the whole pier. I'm not sure I could make it too much smaller and still have it be readable.

I'm glad furniture doesn't effect fish spawns. I have a friend who was thinking about adding a "cafe" on their pier.
