I am not sure if this kind of thing is against the rules or what not, but I am looking for a new pen pal. I am intrigued by letters, because evil technology is destroying the mail thing system thing. So if anyone wants to, I'm down to bring back writing letters and learn about new people in new places!! Inbox me!

To be fair, post your stories of your past/present pen pals! I had a pen pal from California in sixth grade named Hailey and we would send each other little things and on our birthdays or Christmas we would send each other gifts. I also remember once we sent each other leaves from our states. (I lived in Arkansas) sooo BIG diversity. It made me feel so excited to receive from someone so cool so far away. We lost contact but I miss it!!

Post your experiences!!

I've never had a pen pal on my own free will, but my French teacher is making us write to a class of French kids learning English. We sent out our first letters electronically but the English teacher in France said she wanted the rest of the letters to be hand written so we'll hopefully receive their first letters really soon! But they do have to travel really far with us being in the Midwestern United States and them being in France so I don't expect we'll be able to write them very much before the school year is out.

I got my first pen pal in second grade and I got partnered up with a 12 year old. I think I wrote her like one letter. She sent me song lyrics that she said she wrote but they were really from an Avril Lavigne song. Then my fifth grade class got pen pals from Canada. We sent letters there a couple times, but the Canadian teacher stopped contacting our teacher or something and we stopped writing to them. Then when I was in seventh grade, I signed up to get pen pals through Girl's Life magazine. I got ten of them, but I never wrote any letters because I didn't have anything in common with them. I received one letter and two emails from people who were matched with me though, but I didn't respond.

I did it in elementary school I think? It is a vague memory of me writing to some foreign kid. Not really sure.

i've personally never had a pen pal, but it's always seemed like such a fun and cute thing to do c:

My question is what did you write that made your pen pal think you're so complicated?

I remeber in 2003-4 our elementary class got pen pals with a class in Russia that was learning English. I got a Russian coin and some cute cat stickers from mine. I only got one letter from them, but I think we may have sent out two.

Ah, I remember this was something I tried really hard to get into when I was younger. My mum has a lot of penpals even now, my sister and I who were both young at the time thought it was a really cool idea so we tried getting penpals through those magazines. I had one, I can't even remember her name, but I soon realised that writing back felt more like a chore than anything else, so I stopped. I do remember that when we were on holiday in the very south of England, we met some girls there our age and they wanted to be penpals with my sister and I, but they were extremely annoying the whole time we were there so I don't think we ever wrote to them lol.

When I was in elementary school, I put a penpal add to some magazine and got tons of letters from kids wanting to be my penpals. There were 3 girls who I ended up corresponding with for a couple of years. I was supposed to meet one of them when I was visiting the city she lived in but she was away on holiday and we never met.

It's not the same as penpalling, but I've also done *Postcrossing*. The idea is to send a postcard to a random member and get a postcard back from another random member from around the world. It's super fun and exciting, I really recommend it to anyone interested! It's been a while since I did it but I both sent and received some 250 cards and most of them were really nice. I was always looking forward to checking the mail box and seeing what kind of cards I got and reading the messages that were written to me. There were some people who I met on Postcrossing with whom I used to send cards unofficially too. There was this middle-aged lady from the Czech Republic that sent me absolutely beautiful cards and Carmen from China who sent me huge envelopes full of cards and other small things. It was so much fun! Recalling all this is making me want to send postcards again! Seriously, try it out people!
