Quitting the game because of the loss of a hacked item seems… idk… kind of petty and immature? But it’s Twitter so I guess it’s what you would expect.

Interesting about the first one. Wouldn't hackers simply hack the trees back in? But then again, that's what they get for going against Nintendo's terms of use.

I think all of the star trees were modded money trees. Hackers are going to have to find a new way to bring them back. It’ll probably be way more difficult than before since they can’t just modify money trees with a save editor

Call me rude, but that's pretty ridiculous quitting the game just because an unintended feature achieved by hacking is removed. Didn't they think twice about the risks?

On the contrary, back when the star trees were starting to get popular in April, people would scream bloody murder at you if you dared point out that they might get patched out eventually. (coincidentally, bloody murder is what AC Twitter is comparing the loss of the star trees to at the moment)

They are 1k*3 money trees now, to add insult to injury. At least the ones I've seen. I don't know if hackers have been using different "money tree seeds" to inject stars onto??

I really hope Nintendo allows us to have star trees in a legit manner. They can't deny how popular they were, and how much everyone would be happy to have them.

This. Idk what their problem is. They instantly put out a patch a few days after the report fests. That's not a coincidence. They knew about them months ago and didn't care. Now that they "fixed the issue" I doubt we'll ever see them be an official feature.

I'm not surprised they patched out star trees and I highly doubt Nintendo will add them in just because they were popular.

There's literally no point in star trees from a gaming standpoint. You're supposed to wish on stars to get frags not... plant them to get a tree? I'd hope if planting a star did anything it would be way more interesting than a star tree but thats just me like give us interesting flowers or other plants not just a normal tree with stars thrown on. The money tree makes sense since that's something people refer to a lot "money doesn't grow on trees". Star trees .. not so much

They were pretty but it was to be expected. I doubt nintendo paid any mind to them when they first started popping up and only realized how big of a thing it was when all the DAs were being reported and got sick of dealing with them.

never rly cared about the hacked item trees since im too much of a chaotic player who would mess up a button and accidentally shake one lmao so i don't see a point in them. though it was quite satisfying visiting islands that had hacked trees and shook them, i gotta admit. welp, big F to those who had them

their days were never permanently promised anyway with each updates nintendo put out. so idk what the big surprise is now that it's officially been patched.

Those star trees looked ridiculous, but they weren't hurting anybody. That said, if you knowingly violate the TOS, you shouldn't be surprised when something like this happens.

yea it obviously won't be that hard to implement, though has implications on the trading market since you can farm star fragments through planting trees. (though honestly if you're considering the TRADING MARKET in animal crossing then you're doing it wrong)

Maybe they could have a special tree which allows you to hang 3 materials on it? That way you can decorate with star frags while still not generating them from the tree?

Personally I'm not big on that idea.
I absolutely love the pinecone trees, they're really pretty
But I don't see a point in a tree that you can put items on outside of the pine trees covered in lights during the winter holiday season.

They could possibly release an update with the ability to buy special lights or banners to go onto trees that way. (Like some wall furnishings such as the star string lights would be compatible with trees) but the ability to put any 3 items just... hooked onto a tree is a strange mechanic.

I was just sad that they patched the waterfall glitch were you could travel through them because I thought that one made for really cool secret areas in your island and now I can’t have it

It is kind of strange. I’m just trying to rationalize ways for them to implement the trees from a design perspective.

What if, the trees weren’t actually real trees, but a crafted item! Like a Celeste recipe. Maybe they could have a silver leaves or something. It would be cool to see interiors with trees!

When I read that last bullet point about the shovel my heart stopped briefly, because swinging a shovel at a certain angle after performing some other actions is how we currently get access to the 4th tier, and I haven't started decorating mine yet ☠ I live in constant fear about them trying to fix it yet again (and the plant trees right at the edge of cliffs glitch)

Breaking news: Game developer patched a widely abused exploit. People are quitting the game now that they can't cheat anymore. the game developers are very happy to see cheaters leave their game. shocker.

Aw kind of disappointed I never got to see the star trees in a dream address. Oh well it was only a matter of time before they patched it

Not sure if this is patch-related at all or not, but in my second town in March, I can buy balloons at Nook's.
