Opinions on buying seasonal DIY...

I get them for my island theme (specifically the winter ones) but I grind them on my own  I've only been farming winter because that's the only one I need for my theme.. winter wonderland lol

The only seasonal diy I bought was the mush lamp as that is the recipe I need the most in my island, I'm tempted to get the other mush diys as it is definitely what my theme need on my island, but I'm trying to hold off since I'm gonma get it anyways in autumn lol but we'll see in the next days or so as I'm starting to decorate and terraform my island

I don't time travel, but I have bought some out of season recipes and a few out of season items, like the pochettes. I also purchased the cherry blossom recipes I wasn't able to find during that season. I originally didn't want to buy out of season recipes, but I knew I wanted to use a lot of these items to decorate my island and I didnt really want to wait until November to get the item. I plan to wait for the rest of the recipes, but for the ones I did buy, I'm happy I did and I know I will still happily search for these recipes when the time comes!

Anyone from the southern hemisphere has them available now, so it makes sense that they will be up for sale. Personally, I'm not buying anything out of season for me, since I want to try and experience things as they happen in my hemisphere. I do have friends who have bought mushrooms while playing northern hemisphere, or they have friends who play southern and traded. If that works for you, go for it. If you want to wait, that's good too.

I rather wait and get them for free when the season arrives, is one of the rare things I'm patient for some reason. xDD

I could see myself buying DIYs after the event because so far the balloons in my game have been very fickle. I can always wait for the next year, sure, but it's not like hoping that the RNG gives you the right items is a very engaging activity.

For me, I need incentive to keep on playing, and if I get out of season DIYs that's one way that the incentive drops. So, yeah, it's not for me. I want to keep playing NH for a while.

Im tempted to buy DIY’s only southerners would get like the mush lamp simply bc im scared when it is autumn i wont be able to get it myself?? tbf.. its a personal choice

That's why i bought the mush lamp diy and learned it on my alt so that I can still craft it to decorate my island BUT I can still participate in finding it with my main char when autumn comes. :D

yeah, i agree with you. i like getting those diys on my own time, but i do see why people are buying them! the seasonal diys are really pretty and work with so many themes. seeing how people are incorporating them in their towns is just making me excited for them!

I am completely fine with that. Like you, I try to avoid buying the seasonal items I've yet to experience. But there are people who are going for certain aesthetics with their islands, and having access to these items is quite helpful. It is also helpful for those who are just starting the game and have missed these seasonal events.

I have to agree that some prices are too steep.

I am going for a magic forest aestethic, I need the Fall set so bad, but STILL I'm not TTing or even buying from those who do. I plan to play ACNH for just as long as I did New Leaf, and a lot of the fun comes from experiencing everything when it comes. I don't want everything now, because I don't plan to stop playing next month, and I'd like the new seasons to feel fresh. I don't care if people do, I just don't see the point.

I collected as much of the cherry blossom stuff as I could, but I had to buy/trade a few of the final pieces. That event was so short! If they're in season (or have just gone out of season) I don't mind trading to get the last few of the set, rather than waiting a whole year to complete my collections

I can totally respect this too! Some people want to decorate and get things finished up quickly, and that's fine. I view myself being in this game for the long haul, but not everyone takes that POV
i do see myself playing for the long haul as well, but i feel that once the lockdown is over, and everything opening again, ill prob have less time to dedicate to the game! so for the time that will be, id like to have at least a complete island, so i can enjoy more events, villagers, fishing and catching bugs, without thinking "ohmygodthisspotisstillincomplete"

Nah I don't think I'd buy any seasonal DIYs unless we were nearing the end and still didn't have a part of the set. DIYs in particular require the seasonal mats.. which you don't have access to... so why wouldn't you just buy a few of the crafted item instead then? Having the DIY feels virtually useless if you don't have access to the mats anyways and once you do have access to the mats you'll likely be able to get the DIYs yourself

I have no interest in buying diys that aren't already available to me. I like having something to look forward to. I'm not trying to finish the game as soon as possible, so I'm not running around the market boards trying to get my collections to 100%. I don't have any negative feelings towards people who do. I don't understand that way of thinking, but I don't have any dislike towards them either.

Personally, I don't buy out of season DIYs because it takes the joy out of finding them when it's their time in your hemisphere. In a couple of days us Northern players will be switching to the summer DIYs in June. I'm excited to collect those summer shell DIYs on my own!

Someone with a southern hemisphere island gave me one of the autumn seasonal recipes because he had a dupe. However at the time I wasn't even aware of how it all worked so I didn't realize I wasn't quite supposed to have it.

But now that I'm very much aware, I'll stay away from all the seasonals. I'd rather have every season being something special, with actual new things to discover within the game.

I think it's great that those DIYs are available for people who want to buy them for their island's theme etc. The cherry blossom DIYs took me forever to collect and they've decreased the rates of getting a DIY from balloons since then so summer will probably be even harder. So even if you don't have the materials, there are still perks to getting the DIYs early. In my case, I've bought a bunch of mush items since they don't even look very fall-ish to me (especially the red mushrooms 🍄) and go well with my forest. But I am trying to avoid the obviously seasonal items (red leaf piles, frozen furniture etc) until their respective seasons because that's more fun for me.
So there's my half-half answer 😁

I think it depends. Some people may be well aware that they’re going to have lost interest in the game by the time those sets come out in their hemisphere. If that’s the case I think it’s normal to want to just buy it rather than perhaps not get those items at all. Not everyone is so much of an AC fan that they’ll continue to play for months on end. I personally will most likely play for the next several years lol, so I don’t mind waiting to acquire the seasonal sets on my own.

I see no point unless you are currently in the season for it?? Otherwise, you may end up with so many duplicates of one you bought (for a crazy prize) when the season hits for you. Plus, unless you trade for season's materials too, you won't have that either to craft yourself.

I think if you are in the season, it's completely understandable. You may have trouble finding a specific one or you have duplicates of another so why not trade it for one you are missing? Several people don't have time to play often enough to get all the DIYs in the allotted time frame, too.
