Ooo I think it would be cool. That way I could see certain parts of my island/decor a lot better.

I would have been interested! I'm not complaining either way, but i wish we could at least keep the top down view when we're not terraforming..

It would make playing with right joycon drift a much bigger pain than dealing with just left joycon drift.

I wouldn’t care either way if it was added. All I really wanted was the camera view from the GC game. It helps my lack of depth perception when catching fish and bugs, that’s all that really matters to me. So I’m happy with what we have.

If they did have a free camera, that would mean they would have to have buildings be able to be place facing different directions, that would be an upside to me.

I don't really care either way. I'm used to having a fixed camera in Animal Crossing so it doesn't bother me, but I wouldn't complain if they did add it. It'd certainly be useful.

It would be neat but there have been people experimenting with this (there was a video but Nintendo got it taken down for promoting hacks) and it is not possible with the way the game is or has been for the last few generations.

There are a few problems, like the fact that the island is always curved away from you to make it easier to see behind objects, and to be able to hide everything that is too far in the distance.

Some items (like trees, houses and buildings) are really only meant to be viewed from the front and will look terrible/broken when viewed from other angles.

Lastly, the game only loads into memory what it believes you should be seeing. It's just how the game manages to display higher definition models on comparatively slow hardware. Being able to turn the camera on the current game engine reveals a whole lot of empty area and missing items. (Personally I have already seen plenty of items flash in and out of existence as it is, a free camera would make this much worse!)

Basically, this isn't happening in this current game. A top-down view does sound possible, because they did it for the plane - but even that one struggles when there are lots of items around.

Maybe in the next game? But it would probably have to be on a different, more powerful console if they wanted it to be as detailed, and also it would have to be a flat world (keep in mind, people already complained it didn't feel like animal crossing when they did not include rover in the new game and added crafting). I don't see it happening, unfortunately.

If you could angle your camera, your island wouldn't look like how you think it looks. You would see a lot of unloaded stuff in the distance, the building models are 3D, but they would look weird if you could see them from the side, especially at ground level. How your island looks when flying an airplane over to a different island is not how it looks when you're playing the game. It would be a cool feature, I don't expect it to ever happen unless Nintendo decides they're going to make everything 3D. The trees don't even have leaves behind them. Shesez did a video on this.
