I read a few comments about people who were disappointed that the camera is still fixed outside in NH, and now I’m interested in what other ppl think. What I mean by unrestricted outside camera would be like being able to move the camera outside like inside our houses

I was just thinking about that the other day.. We can move the camera inside the houses but not outside. It would be good to look for hidden things and we would be able do decorate behind buildings as well. I have refrained from placing some furniture outside because I wouldn't be able to see it right. Not a huge problem tho

Yeah I would love that. Would be perfect for taking better pictures, and honestly am not sure why this is not already a thing? If it was available outside of the camera mode, this would change up the game so much. I'd finally be able to decorate sideways without it looking weird/not being able to see it properly. Although the downside is that this would make my brain hurt alot if you had full control like in the houses, and i'd rather have it so I could just change 90 degrees. That would also make it so it's not too hard to implement (I think, i'm not a game dev :v), so I'd like to think it's always a possibility that the NH team are looking at.

Personally, my opinion is that I would really love an unrestricted camera for the next gen AC game and it would fit in with the progression of being able to decorate outside. I don’t think the devs could have handled an unrestricted camera in NH, but I think it would be amazing with a next gen console and next gen game

I'm fine with the current range of movement, but I need the option to invert the axes!

After decades of playing with inverted camera controls - thanks to Nintendo, of course - the fact that there's no option for it in this game is baffling.

I'd like an option to get a bird's eye view of my island. The return trip flyover is extremely limited.

I don't know, on one hand it would be really cool but on the other it would make decorating even more complex, since you would have to design an area that looks good from all angles!

I would like more camera controls... I don't want or need a 360 camera, and I think it would look bad in this game because everything is designed to be seen straight on, though maybe in the future the camera will follow our character from behind even when running east/west and the ability to place buildings in any direction we wish in a fully 3D world. But that's beyond the capabilities of this game.

Right now what I would like is the ability to move the camera at any angle I wish.... right now there's only 4 set angles. Sometimes what I want to capture is between two angles, so more than once I've taken a screenshot as the camera is moving. 😅
The picture taking camera leaves a lot to be desired as well... I wish things in the foreground could be hidden if we wish like in normal camera mode and there's not much advantage to it other than hiding the ui clock/map. I almost prefer the regular camera. Capturing cute moments is very hit or miss, because I either have to run over, toggle the picture camera, run away, position it.... and by that time the villager got up and I get a shot of the back of their head. Or, I take a screenshot, and have it off center and far away, and with the clock/map showing.

Overall not great... but it's okay.

i would really like it now that they've implemented terraforming and adding cliffs. i am pretty conservative with cliff placement to minimize blocking off my character or getting that god awful top down shot when i talk to a villager (idk why it bugs me so much... i guess i just wanna see expressions?). having an unrestricted camera or at least a camera that was more responsive would help with that.

also be great for pix.

I've thought about how the game would be different if you could move the camera freely. If that extends to being able to place buildings at different angles it might get kinda complicated, but freedom from the everything-faces-front system would be nice. Would there be a "default" camera angle or would it feel more open like say Mario Odyssey? Could that reasonably be pulled off in an AC game without feeling awkward? (I mean they kinda started doing it with Pokemon so...)

I think maybe a tilt-to-the-side view would be helpful. Just a little 45° angle peek around the corner. Like how you can tilt the camera skyward, but it goes back to a regular view when you move.
I was thinking about it recently and I don't think I'd want a full 360° camera. It's maybe just a little too much? And I still design my rooms primarily facing "forward," with a few details when you turn the camera, because it's the default view.

an unrestricted camera would be neat but it’s not a feature i’m all that concerned with - i wouldn’t object to having it, though ;w;

It'd be awesome to see what our islands would look like if you were to see it from a different point of view. I want to see the sunrise and sunset! Shesez did something like this one time but the video was taken down unfortunately at the time of this post.

I occasionally flick the right stick to change the camera outside as a force of habit and it never works. 😂 I dunno if I'd want full rotation outside, but I do think more than the few fixed angles we get could be nice.

I personally don’t want an unrestricted camera purely because I don’t feel like it’d feel like an animal crossing game anymore. I know the camera angle has varied slightly from game to game but it’s always felt like an animal crossing game when you booted it up. Whether you’re playing WW or NH you can tell they’re part of the same franchise.
Whilst it’d be interesting to see our towns from different angles I just don’t feel it’d suit AC.

Personally I love the idea. Imagine not only a free camera, but being able to place buildings in other directions as well... it's a good idea perhaps for them to explore in the next AC game. Maybe make it optional for those who want to have it traditional.

After a certain point, if you change the design, is it still Animal Crossing? The Rolling Log effect has been iconic since Wild World.

I'm just not sure it feels right.
