Not asking for any information or anything like that, I'm just curious about what you guys think about hacked towns, and the idea of hacking in general? I personally really enjoy visiting hacked dream towns, and I see it as a different art form than playing the game the "regular" way. It is a extremly creative platform, just a different one. What do you think?

I feel somewhat the same way, it's extremely fun and nice to visit hacked dream towns but I personally wouldn't hack because I believe that a Villager putting their house in a bad spot and everything that could be fixed wit ha simple hack is all apart of the game. Having everything handed to you is not how I personally like to play games.

I agree. Though hacked towns are nice, hacking takes the fun out if the game. I mean, if we set out goals to achieve something we want, then we'll work out way to reach it. If you take the easier route, then the game will eventually get boring since you have nothing to work towards. I would never hack my town, but I'm not trying to offend anyone who has hacked theirs.

It definitely allows for more creativity. That’s why I wanted to hack in the first place. Personally, I think it makes it more fun. Just because you hack your game doesn’t mean you can’t still do the majority of things in your game on your own! I’ve always liked hacked towns, but I could never hack my 3ds myself because yeah that’s a lot of steps lmao. Thankfully, my sweet bf did it for me!

I think it's okay for others to do. I personally would not play my game that way, but I do enjoy visiting hacked towns as well. Unless the town feels "broken" meaning it's glitchy and hard to navigate. Otherwise, hackers can do a lot of creative things since they have more freedom. Kinda makes me jealous lol. Too much effort though, and I enjoy playing the normal way.

I dont know if emulating Acnl counts as hacking but... As people dump amiibo files to the internet and you get any Villager you want, even Amiibo ones (Wolf link).
I would consider hacking unless if i had a spare cartrige to play with

I can't really bring myself to appreciate hacked towns. They didn't really put the effort in as much as someone with a non-hacked town. Non-hacked towns are literally weeks of planning and effort. I just can't bring myself to give attention to people who hack Animal Crossing, it's just not how I think the game should be played.

I never hacked a game and will probably never do it, as I don't even know how hacking works at all
and I don't wanna break my game by doing this. In general, I don't have a problem with people who
hack their games. And sometimes it is interesting to visit hacked dream towns, however, there are
hacked towns which are so terrible hacked that they are not really enjoyable to visit, like those who
hacked PWPs into the ocean, houses and trees glitched together and so on. Overall, there are also
some pretty looking hacked towns too or course and those are nice to look at. I do understand why
people would hack their games, so that they can do more with their towns and let their creativity run
wild. But it's nothing for me, I just prefer to play in the normal way.

^ Pretty much agreed.

This topic looks like being brought up every so often lately, and though those who are into hacking always say it give you more creativity, I don't really see it creativity. "less restriction/more freedom, so you can be more creative"? In my opinion, real creativity is what you can do/how you can make amazing outcome in the situation you have despite/with the restriction. That's the work of imagination and is the creativity.

When this was brought up awhile back, someone who hacks remarked that it's not easier option or less effort like people think in any means, because it requires you to put in a lot of efforts and time to acquire the skill of hacking. I was like, "So...??" Say, you want to be fluent in speaking different language. So you put in efforts to learn it. And? So? That's nothing special. Because you want to be skillful of it, you study, that's just natural. It's different story, from efforts in ACNL.

And, lastly, I don't know how it is in other countries, but in my country it's illegal. It's disrespectful to the efforts of those who did put in so much time and efforts to design and make the game. That's how I feel.

I personally don’t hack myself and probably won’t go through the whole process either. I do like some aspects though that I think are pretty nice. Overall my whole town right now is non hacked ( I will finish it completely non hacked all through the end).
However in the future I would like to add some things...like maybe some weeds and clovers in the pond, etc that will give my town a something a little extra. Don’t think hacking a town means no effort was put. Your town could be 95% non hacked and 5% hacked. It’s really hard to tell. I don’t think it takes anything away from the game.

I've hacked in the past to get big amounts of bells and items, which made the game way less enjoyable. From that moment on, I decided to hack for very few, very specific events.

  • For instance, I moved the rocks so they're around the plaza. They're decoration now and I don't have to worry about them being an obstacle.
  • I've also moved all my villagers to the bottom of my town, so they have a little neighbourhood for themselves. It makes them easier to find and it looks really neat.
  • I also absolutely despise the PWP placement system (The whole "Yes, Mayor! Is this about where you'd like to place the park clock?"
    [menu where you click yes]
"Well, let's see... It's just so close to something else that I think it would be very tough to place it right here. We're planning to put in a new park clock this time... From where you're standing now, Mayor, we need an empty section of land that's 1 left and right! And then another 2 spaces back! Basically, you need a lot of space! However, if it's going to be next to something else, I think it'd be best to have extra space on all sides." thing.).
For that I just place it wherever, and then move it using the computer so I don't have to worry about it.
But yeah, overall hacking really removes the fun, but when used purely for quality-of-life-improvements, I think it does some good.

I wouldn't hack my game ever for the fear that I'd corrupt my DS, and I don't visit hacked towns for that same reason. i mean visiting hacked towns probably wouldn't hurt my DS but I still don't wanna try lol Hacked towns are beautiful though, but in a lot of them I see the same thing. Like in a lot of dream tour videos I watch, I can automatically tell it's a hacked town when I see clovers on the town plaza. Then I just get annoyed and click off because I want to get inspiration from a town that's not hacked so I know that I can actually do the same thing they did. I'm not knocking people who hack their game! I just want see more non hacked towns.

I love visiting hacked dream towns, I find it really cool to see what people can achieve. As far hacked towns themselves, I do not condone hackers nor hacking the town itself. If they wanna play the game that way, okay, doesn't affect me. I have had thoughts of wanting to be able to hack my towns, and sometimes I still do even after all these years. However I lack the tools to do so, so I could never hack my game. Heck, I can't even dupe anymore.

Everything I've done in my towns has been purely my effort throu natrual gameplay. Dreamies obtained? Personality plot reset. PWPs? Waited for animals to ping me (finally got the flower bed). Shops? Aggressively bought stuff so they'd expand. DLC? Most I got from an online player and some I got when Nintendo re-issued many of their stuff. Town development as a whole, cross breeds, trees, QR paths, landscaping? I have a green thumb, and look up lots of QRs on twitter. Some I make myself using my own creativity. I hardly use thulinma.

Hackers still do put time in their towns, it's not like they clicked one button and the entire town was made. Does it take as long as it does for natrual players? Probably not. Did they obtain all that stuff by grinding and shopping? Chances are, depending on the hacker, no. Did they speed up the game? Good chance that's a fat yes. But again, they did put SOME time and effort to make their towns. They thought of a theme, they got QRs, they tweeked the town to their liking, ect... Even hackers have limits to what they can do without corrupting their game or making it unplayable ex constant crashing, lagging, glitch in ect...

TL;DR People will play how they play. As long as they aren't malicious, fine by me. I'll just keep playing natrually. They enjoy playing ACNL like that, I'll continue to enjoy my elbow grease and efforts in the way I play.

Facts. Explained so well, completely agreed.

I've hacked for many things in the past, and it can be very helpful, but it makes me want to play the game less. Hacked towns are cool.

I would never personally hack my game. I don't have the necessary skills and don't care to learn them. I enjoy doing things the regular way, even if Isabelle can occasionally be frustrating with her PWP restrictions.

But I'm a live and let live kind of person, so as long as somebody else isn't being malicious with their hacks and ruining other people's fun, I don't mind if they choose to hack.

I have visited hacked towns and thought some of them were very cool. I liked how they were able to plant palm trees on the mainland to create a tropical oasis or put Katrina's tent in the middle of an overgrown jungle. That type of creativity was fun to see. But I've seen other things that just didn't make sense to me and didn't seem to have a purpose. But if that person liked their town, that's all that matters.

Unfortunately, since I don't hack, when I'm looking for inspiration I specifically seek out the non-hacked towns. There's not much point in being inspired by something I can't or won't be able to do myself.

Personally I don't hack, and would really prefer to not have hacked items in my game. However as long as you let other players know before they play with you, I don't care whether you hack or not. What you do with your own game is your business.

It's fun at first, but it takes all the fun out of the game. I hacked my game and tbh I regret it, cause I don't feel any motivation to play now.

I really do like some hacked towns but others.. not so much. I once went to a dream town where the houses were on the beach but, I couldn't even get into the other houses. I really didn't like that.

Hack your town the way you want to, but when your town has trees and stumps that are too close together, multiple weeds and your town just looks like you've abandoned it for 2000 eons, then expect it to not have a lot of fans.
