it wouldnt make any sense unless you had limited choices.
the game doesnt recognize what you type, it takes it at face value and spews it back at you. so, it would have to be a dropdown list of things, otherwise it would be impossible.

I agree. And besides, what if the player wished for something to happen in real life? The game wouldn't be able to do anything about that.

I wouldn't mind having a drop down list instead of typing. I think it would be cool if you didn't get just one gift from all your villagers. I want to see my mailbox blowing up or get stopped when I'm out walking so they can hand me a gift. Villagers get at least two gifts on their birthday. :c

Lmao mine did but I guess I won't post it 'cause it's a spoiler if anyone hasn't seen the Breaking Bad series finale. (My birthday was right before the last episode)

This idea would work I guess if you weren't allowed to input your own wish and instead had a set of options to pick from, but I kinda like it how it is.
