so can I buy a 2nd copy of acnh or do I have to rlly buy another switch??

youd have to buy another switch. all switch game data is stored in the system itself, like the wii. not the cartridge.

2 copies of the game would be like 2 keys to the same house. Not going to cut it sadly.

you’ll unfortunately need to purchase another switch if you want a second island

it sucks, i know lol

There is still a small bit of hope that versions of ACNH from different regions may have different game IDs and therefore count as different games to the switch system, but with holidays being downloaded instead of native to the game cart, I am not hopeful.

i find it quite frustrating that each nintendo account couldn't have its own island. i get that the switch is a console and typically games are shared (such as with the gamecube and cityfolk version) but other switch games give u the option to start a new game with a different profile, and it sucks that animal crossing did not implement this. i know plenty of people who share a switch with siblings and who now have to share an island, which could have been avoided by implementing a new savefile (new island) per profile such as other games like mario oddessy, stardew valley etc.

you migth be able to download a digital copy from a completely different region with different regionsl events ie. Japan
thats how it works with splatoon anyways

Would you have to switch your switch to that different region every time you played it?

Honestly, something just seems off about Nintendo making it so you can only have one island per Nintendo switch. Yea, it could be what they are doing to increase sales of switch consoles, but something tells me that they will have some kind of feature where you can get more islands later in the game. I feel like one island per switch will probably upset a good portion of people.

The ability to have more islands somehow, honestly, a way Nintendo could make paid DLC that people would pay for. It would suck to pay for the DLC, but that would be cheaper than another Switch, so people would do it.

That would be cool, but I doubt it. I think they would want as much money as they can get.

i dont think its a part of any exploit to try and get more switch sales for people who want more than one island or as a plan to sell DLC down the road. theres likely lots of reasons for the decision. my guess is so that event items cannot easily be duplicated (i;e have 8 accounts, get 8 of the item, sell them in communities for profit) since they seem to REALLY be cracking down on item duping

It's okay to believe Nintendo did it for the right reasons, instead of assuming it's some sort of cash grab. I think one island per Switch increases the chances of people playing together. Sure, they had a commercial showing a mother and daughter playing on two systems, but the daughter joined the mother on her island.

Yes, this. So much of the ads focus on TOGETHER. Nintendo sees the fact that you share an island as a PRO, not a con.

As always, every player should be able to play the event solo, and all get a reward, even though it's the same island. So that cannot be the reason.

I agree with this. You can legitimately get multiples of an item by playing an event again with another character. Nintendo doesn't even care about that.

Duping does not reference legitimately gotten copies like this. Duping is when you are taking advantage of some exploit to make literally a copy of an item. THAT is what Nintendo doesn't like, because 1) they consider it cheating and 2) they consider it mild hacking.

Having multiple islands would be similar to having multiple characters to get items - it's legitimate and Nintendo would be fine with that.

Being Nintendo, they want to be "family first", and maybe the best thing to do for the family was to let all of their players live on the same island, which helps when they do same Switch co-op togeather.

there have been (unconfirmed) theories that you'll be able to have multiple towns per switch if you have two copies from separate regions. but we wont know for sure until the game is out.

Interesting. I seem to recall people switching regions to play different splatfests in Splatoon 2.

I guess we'll find out soon enough. I'd totally create foreign accounts for additional islands
