Olivia acting really weird.

This sounds totally bizarre I know but I'm at my wits end with it.

Now I know villagers pick up catchphrases easily. But last week or so Olivia started saying 'hoppy' instead of 'purr' no input from me.

None of my other villagers say it either, from what I know this isn't any villager's default catchphrase?

The only thing I can think of is that it was raining one day and she said how she wanted to be a frog or something similar. This seems to be the only thing I can think of that would make her say 'hoppy'.

I don't know any way of them changing catch phrases other than yourself or from another villager. Did I stumble upon some weird mechanic/easter egg? I tried googling it but I didn't get any results.

She was also staring up at the sky today and Phoebe had her eyes bugged out at her, which is unrelated but still really weird to me.

Maybe someone else changed it? Do you share your game with anyone?

Ah how weird, sounds like a glitch, I've never heard of this happening before.

That's what I thought too but like I said she was talking about how it'd be nice to be a frog on a rainy day or something when she started, and I don't think any villager in ACNL has 'hoppy' as a default so I don't know where it would pull it from to give it to her.

It's making me want to go through the games data and look for the event for it.

I believe animals sometimes share catchphrases with each other, is there a villager in your town who says "hoppy"? Some of the villagers I've had from the very beginning have changed their catch phrases to match each other, so now I have random villagers saying "grrolf" because they picked it up from Rolf.

That's creepy...My childish side instantly thinks your game is haunted, but that obviously isn't the case.xD

This sounds...impossible. You probably changed it to that without remembering, or maybe one of your other villagers has that catchphrase and you just don't realize it. I've never head of a glitch like that, and I don't see how it's really possible for it to even be a glitch since the game would somehow have to have the word "hoppy" programmed into it and that isn't even any animal's catchphrase. That word is nowhere in the game as far as I'm aware. :-/

Still pretty weird though. Do you have any siblings/friends who could have been playing the game without your knowledge?

That sounds really strange and impossible. I've had that dialog come up with Olivia and Diana in my town various times but none of them changed their catchphrase... Like Dewy said maybe you changed it and don't remember or something.
If it were an easter egg it would be systematic with that dialog, so other people would have noticed by now. And if it were a glitch it would turn out being random letters or a blank most probably.

I haven't changed any of my villager's catchphrases for months because I felt like it was futile since they just pick up each other's automatically. Even then, I usually take screen shots of what they say when they 'ping' me because I have an ACNL blog and like to post what they say. So even then I'd have a screenshot of Olivia at least asking, and when I did change it I always took pictures of the whole convo to let my followers know of the change.

For that reason I can also go back and look and see none of them have 'hoppy'. I only ever had one frog which is the only animal I could think I would give that catchphrase too, since I usually theme their new catch phrases with their species or house theme. Like Pierce says 'private' for military stuff and medieval stuff for Knox. I even went back in my blog to find my only frog villager (Diva) and her catch phrase never changed from 'ya know'. (I didn't like Diva so I didn't give her special attention, only villagers I like a lot ever get requests like that fulfilled). Then I went back through to find if Bonbon ever said it on the off chance I would do that for a rabbit, but she only ever said 'Deelish' and picked up Pierce's catchphrase.

And I really loved Olivia's catchphrase so there's no way I would have said yes.

I have no siblings I have no local friends as I'm disabled and don't get out much, I live with my family because of my disabilities and none of them even know how to turn on the DS. And because of my disability I'm in or on the bed all day so my DS is literally in between me and the wall.

This is why I'm so confused, I know no one else had the catch phrase before Olivia moved in, and even now only she's saying it. I know it'd have to be programmed in, but I'm wondering if this is a really weird obscure event since it started on a rainy day and like I said, she mentioned wanting to be a frog or something.

So I thought it might be something like where they'll get a flea and their catchphrase will change, and maybe it got stuck? That's the only thing I could think since I have screen shots from since I started playing this game and no one has said it. I wish I had managed to capture Olivia talking about frogs on rainy days but I was expecting the same old generic 'get me an apple' or 'i love the town ordinance!' types of comments.

He said in the first post none of his other villagers say it

I missed that, I guess.

Hmmm maybe if you (the user who posted this) got it from someone's void that could be why? Maybe it's just a glitch though.

Someone's void? I'm not sure what you mean by that.
If a villager moves out of someone's town without being invited into another town, it's commonly referred to as "sending them to the void" (or just "voiding them"). Villagers that have been "voided" can be passed on to other towns that that person wifis with or streetpasses. I don't really see how that's relevant here though...

It's relevant here because that user says they didn't streetpass anyone or have anyone over, but if they wi-fi'd with someone for other reasons like visiting that person's village, they could still get villagers from their void. Plus they say "that I know of" on streetpassing, so I guess that's not impossible that they accidentally did.

Why would that randomly change her catchphrase though?

Oh. Nope. I got Olivia when she was camping in my town. Even then I haven't wified in months and like I said she had 'purrr' still before 'hoppy.'

EDIT: Also, I said 'That I know of' because I hadn't checked my street pass in ages. I just did and it turns out I didn't streetpass anyone. I haven't since Anime Boston and that was long before Olivia started saying 'hoppy'

That wouldn't randomly change her catchphrase but if she'd belonged to someone before, they could have changed her catchphrase. Funnily enough, you also suggested something similar in page one (Olivia belonging to someone before and having her catchphrase changed that way) so it's funny you're so obsessed with what I'm saying.

To reply to the OP, if there's absolutely no chance that she belonged to someone before, maybe it's really just the game acting funny. You can always change her catchphrase if you don't like it.

"obsessed with what you're saying" lol what I'm just trying to have a discussion?? And I meant if someone he knows irl i.e. a friend or family member played in his town and changed it. But he said that's not the case. He also said she had a different catchphrase "purr" before she started saying "hoppy" so where she came from before that is irrelevant.
