....You just did an exchange? Like... You're not scamming him? You got the items, he got the items, game saved, they should be in his pockets? Either he's lying and trying to scam you or some weird glitch happened and he lost his tickets for some reason.

For you to scam him you should've ended the session before he could grab the tickets, but you didn't, you made sure both had your items and then end.

It doesn't make sense that he says "i picked them up and you saved the game. thats the only way i couldve been kicked off your island like that. theres no other way for it to happen. i was ripped off 400 tickets the same way the other day. " like he's saying that you did well the trade ("i picked them up and you saved the game.") and thus, the tickets have to be in his pockets? What??

With all the stories I'm reading about these things, if I ever get to trade again I'll have to take 1000 screenshots to make sure I can defend myself ._.

Maybe it's best if you contact a mod about this (I don't know if you're talking about this forum's discord or another one), to ask for some advice of how to proceed? But first of all don't panic, you've stated that you didn't scam him (and by the looks of it, you didn't), and you getting nervous will only help him in case he's trying to scam you.

i mean its fine, he let it go in the end because i started cornering him. it was the general ac discord not the tbt one. the people on this forum / discord are much kinder and genuine.

Just in case take a screenshot of the conversation, because it's not the first time someone says that they'll let it go and suddenly you're questioned by mods. Besides that, I'm glad that this ended well ^^

I didn't join TBT's discord yet, may try it out if everyone is a nice as in the forums

Wait, hold on, I'm confused. I think there's been a bit of a misunderstanding. But if I got something wrong, please do tell me!

So, generally, trades happen like this. Both parties drop their items at the same time. Then both parties "cross over" and pick up their items at the same time. That's what the other person said ("Drop the NMT at the same time as the nuggets."), so I'm not sure why you thought you had to be cautious when they said that.

When a host scams, usually what happens is they wait for the visitor to drop their items, and then they immediately press - to end the session. This saves the game with the visitor's item on the ground, and the visitor will be kicked out. I think what the other person saw was this. They saw you dropping the item and then standing on top of it, which is a red flag to the visitor. Then after they picked it up, you immediately ended the session. What it looked like to them was you trying to end the session earlier before they picked up their NMTs, but you were just a little too late. In the end, they got their item, so it's a completed trade, but what they saw was different. They were probably scammed the exact same way earlier, so they're on high alert.

I apologize if I'm misinterpreting you. I understand that you're stressed, especially after being scammed already, and them asking to shop at the Nookling's isn't great, in my opinion (I always offer the shops to my visitors, but I'd never just ask someone randomly if I could shop at their island), but I do think there's been a misunderstanding. I honestly don't seen any intent to scam from the visitor? I think both of you are just really anxious about scams from earlier experiences; they seem to have jumped to the conclusion and think that you're scamming them, when that's not the case.

I'm glad he let it go, cos he has no grounds to pester you on. He got his items, so, you didn't scam them.

Though, ngl, this is why I don't think I'd ever trade outside these forums and friends. Too much shady stuff going around, makes it hard to trust people, even if they're being decent.

no, i was just standing until he dropped, because i had dropped before he did and he was not. i moved after obviously, and he picked up his items and i saved and ended not even immediately, we both got to say thank you. he got his tickets! he was trying to tell me that he didnt, that i didnt pay him! and he was requesting more tickets from me. it was not a miscommunication- it was an accusation. why would he back off once i started telling him he was lying and wrong ? the only thing i stopped him from was wandering my island on the way to nooks.

Is it possible that by using the - button to end the session, you caused a rollback for him? I've heard that it's not recommended to use the - button because it can cause these things to happen sometimes and can sometimes be glitchy. So it is possible he got back to his island and somehow didn't have the tickets due to the use of the - button. No one can say if that's what happened or not, but it could be a possibility?

If you get "kicked off" an island without your new items, then you would get some NookMiles from the game as a sort of reimbursement. You see it when you exit your airport, so you would know immediately. If you think you got scammed because you already know how this could play out, wouldn't you then record your screen's last 30 seconds so you had all the proof that you need?

To me it just seems like he was mad he couldn't stay on your island and tried to guilt trip you by saying he just wanted to shop. If he could comment on you not letting him through, then I don't think he had any problems saving his items in his inventory.

Ending the session with the minus button only causes bizarre things (rarely) with multiple people. It tends to function fine with 2 or 3 people. Still not recommending because there is that super rare chance something goes wrong, but, yeah.

i’m literally refusing to trade on discord - it seems most scammers or attempted scams are found on there ;u;

Ah, okay. Thanks for clarifying. Your initial account went straight from "he picked up the tickets" to "I ended the session," which is why I wasn't sure. If you had time to cross over, pick up the items, and exchange thanks, that's a different story.

That definitely seems suspicious, then. The only thing I can think of is the visitor associates ending the session entirely with scams (maybe they expected to leave through the airport). But still, they definitely should have gotten their items since the session was ended properly, and they shouldn't expect to shop at the Nookling's. Even if a weird rollback occurred, they shouldn't be rude and assume that you were scamming them, so, again, that's suspicious.

Is it possible that by using the - button to end the session, you caused a rollback for him?

Generally, the host using - to end the session is fine. But the visitor using - to leave causes issue. The host doing it kicks everyone off, but it saves everything, and this has been here since NL. When the visitor uses it, it starts a countdown if someone is in a menu. At the end of the countdown, then everything is reset to the last save, and the visitor using it is gone. That's when the rollback occurs. This function is actually meant to prevent scams, but it's obviously kind of wonky. Before, a host could prevent a visitor from leaving just by opening a menu, so you'd have to force a DC to leave. Admittedly, the multiplayer is super glitchy, so while we can't rule it out, from what I understand, the host using the - button should be safe.

i had not gotten scammed before -- im confused where people are getting this assumption? the only issue ive had previously was people coming to sell turnips and shaking my bell trees- hence me not letting him thru. i did not know it was gonna play out like that because we both said thank you rather pleasantly to one another before i ended session?

I was talking about your visitor, because he said " i was ripped off 400 tickets the same way the other day". 🙂

If you both had said thankyou and all was said and done before you ended the session, then it's really a difficult situation to figure out. Is he lying for some reason to try to ruin your reputation or try to get more tickets out of you? Or did he honestly return to his island and not have any tickets and is upset over a real reason. There's sadly no way of proving either or. It's up to you if you want to believe him or not.

I would make it dependent on his attitude towards you. If he was immediately demanding more tickets and being really hostile, I'd just back away from this situation and not look back. But if he seemed more upset and sad? I might be willing to work with him a little and maybe give him a few tickets as a reimbursement if I felt like he was being honest.

no he was very aggressive and immediately cussed me out and was sending middle finger emojis lol -- he was acting quite juvenile and i was genuinely trying to figure out what had happened.
