This is a thread about all things Old Hollywood (like 1960s and earlier), so feel free to discuss about Old Hollywood stuff here! 😁

Kind of interesting how the song “Bette Davis Eyes” and the movie “Mommie Dearest” both came out in 1981. (Bette Davis and Joan Crawford notoriously did not get along.) Joan was dead by this point, but Bette apparently sent flowers to the women who wrote the song. She also wrote a letter, thanking them for honoring her legacy. Her grandson even thought the song made her sound cool!

Suffice to say, the song boosted Bette’s reputation, while the movie forever tarnished Joan’s.

I'm so glad there's still at least a handful of Old Hollywood actors who are still alive right now. Imagine how devastating it'll be when the news announces Dick Van ****'s death. The man's almost 100 years old.

I also like knowing that Sophia Loren and Rita Moreno are still alive. And Eva Marie Saint just turned 100! Mamie van Doren is in her 90s, and one of her husbands (a musician, I believe?) is 102! Hope they can all live that long.

In my spare time, I like to go visit the Classic Actresses website blog to read up information about Classic Hollywood actresses from the Silent and Golden age of Hollywood. There's also a YouTube channel where you could watch clips of these actresses in their movies and stuff.

In the spirit of Halloween, I am blogging about some spooky Old Hollywood icons, such as Vampira and Lily Munster. I will post the link here when I’m done. (Tomorrow)

Post is here!

George Reeves was an American actor who was best known for playing Clark Kent/Superman from the tv series, Adventures of Superman which ran from 1952-1958.

Sadly, his life was cut short by a gunshot wound to the head in 1959 at just 45 years old. To this day, his death still remains controversial. Despite the official cause of his death being suicide, some believe his death was likely an accident or even murder.

Omg I know who you’re talking about! They still show the old Adventures of Superman on my TV, on Saturday mornings.

He was so handsome! 💕😜😍

Maybe not old enough, but in case you didn’t know, the sumo wrestlers in the beginning of You Only Live Twice (The James Bond movie) are actual sumo wrestlers!

One of them is Kotozakura, who became Yokozuna (or grand champion, the highest rank). I’ve seen his grandson Kotozakura II (used to be Kotonowaka) in sumo tournaments over the years and didn’t know he was a sumo nepo baby lol. Not only was his grandpa a Yokozuna who got to be in a movie, but his dad was a sumo wrestler, too. (The dad isn’t the grandpa’s son, but his son-in-law.)

Kotozakura II is an ozeki, and some people think he will become Yokozuna soon, but I can see that happening more with Onosato.

(Kind of off-topic, because I’m ready for the November tournament!)

I was watching Niagara tonight (starting Marilyn Monroe) and I have to say…it was fun watching her play a femme fatale type of role. Kind of wish she got the chance to have more like it. And the pink dress…! When the guy said it “showed off her kneecaps” I knew the screenwriters wished they could put something else!

(I like the Seven-Year Itch too, but Some Like It Hot will always be my favorite Marilyn Monroe movie.)

I've been in the mood for something with a specific type of character that is usually the villain. I seem to keep falling back on to shows with Hans Conried and Vincent Price. You may know them as Captain Hook in Disney's Peter Pan and Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective.

Hans was also the villain in the only live action Dr. Seuss movie "The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T".

Vincent Price was in many things. I found the Raven on youtube. I haven't had the chance to watch it to see if anything in there would be objectionable to anyone here.

As a kid growing up in the late 2000s, an advertisement of Shirley Temple's DVD Collection would come up on my TV screen, and I would watch it. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of her, nor watched any of her films, it still remains a big part of my childhood growing up.

In fact, it came up on my TV screen multiple times. Now mind you, Shirley Temple was still alive around the time I watched this ad on TV (she died in 2014) which means I was pretty much old enough to remember Shirley Temple back when she was still alive even though I didn't find out about her death until years later.

I remember when my government teacher said that Shirley Temple became a diplomat— Ambassador to Ghana (and also Czechoslovakia)— I was like…that little girl who was dancing around on my TV? No way! But it turned out to be true! Interesting how she found a political career.

I thought I had seen all the Vincent Price / Edgar Allen Poe films. Yet somehow I missed this one? I'll have to check it out sometime. It even has Boris Karloff in it. Those are two of my favorite horror actors.
