A 48-year-old man in Ohio has been arrested and is facing charges of obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct after refusing to stop cutting the grass at a local public park.

John Hamilton of Sandusky says on Thursday the grass in Sandusky Central Park was over 12 inches long. He decided to take up the task at cutting it after driving around his city and seeing how long the grass was in vacant lots and in public parks. He was also inspired by Toledo's mayor, who spent his time off cutting the grass in his local parks.

"I was only trying to save the city some money," said Hamilton to FOX 8 in Cleveland. As Hamilton was cutting the grass, city workers attempted to stop him, showing him a list of lawns they were going to cut, including the one he was mowing.
(1) Hamilton told the worker to go cut another lawn while he finished cutting the one in Sandusky Central Park.

A short time later, police arrived on the scene and told Hamilton to stop cutting the grass. When he refused, police verbally warned him. When he refused a second time, police arrested him and charged him with obstruction and disorderly conduct. (2) Police say that the trash was not removed from the lawn prior to him mowing it and his riding mower was throwing the debris onto the sidewalks and into the streets.

City officials call the incident unfortunate, but that they knew the grass would be an issue months before the growing season started. Officials say there are over 600 acres of park grass that needs to be mowed regularly, but that only three or four people are assigned the task due to city budget cuts. Officials also add that residents can adopt local parks in an effort to help maintain them, but Hamilton did not go through the process. (3)

Hamilton appeared in court today where he pled not guilty.

"I am a citizen," said Hamilton who added he had no regrets about the incident. "The only thing I'm worried about is...how am I going to tell my wife."
My comments -
(1) Workers are getting paid by the taxpayers so they don't want this man saving money for the taxpayers. Stereotypical government workers.
(2) Civil disobedience. (popularized by Gandhi)
(3) The government wants you to go through their system since they control you and your community.

he should of listened after told the first few times. I heard about this immediately because I'm from Ohio. His own stupid fault for deliberately disobeying the authorities.

Wao I can imagine a conversation like this:

"Hey bud what are you in for?"

"Cutting the grass at a local park, you?"

"Ahh. My wife was being annoying so I took a shotgun and shut her up."

*Gulp* o_e

He wouldn't go to jail, he would pay a few fines for being stupid.

Ugh, why can't the government include intelligence? ._.
It was his fault for not listening, but still, stupid reason to get arrested. :l

He ended up getting debris everywhere. This includes sticks and garbage. It is nearly impossible to pick up these after they have been mowed.

Honestly, the first thought that should pop into everyone's head when they hear the words United States Congress, is "Those stupid lazy bums raising their own paychecks just because".

Or something similar.

"Were the talents and virtues which heaven has bestowed on men given merely to make them more obedient drudges, to be sacrificed to the follies and ambition of a few? Or, were not the noble gifts so equally dispensed with a divine purpose and law, that they should as nearly as possible be equally exerted, and the blessings of Providence be equally enjoyed by all?"

- Samuel Adams

He should of followed the proper channels and done it the way it should of been done then. He should of definitely listened after being told several times to stop. What else did he expect to happen? If the police can't stop someone from doing something they shouldnt be doing then he should of expected to be arrested.

What if he hurt himself somehow? What if he hurt someone else? They could attempt to sue the city, when this idiot was doing things on his own. That would of really raised some tax dollars.

Geesh, he was just trying to help the community. He should have complied with orders, but being arrested? That's harsh.

Hurt someone / himself by mowing grass? I mow my lawn all the time and no one gets hurt. :P

But why do you believe the government is responsible for controlling people and controlling societies? Aren't government workers employed by the people?

No, they are employed by the city. Yes the city officials are paid by the tax payers, but in reality it is up to the city to hire those people. Not us.

And yes, I know it is rare to hurt yourself or someone else by mowing the lawn, but it does happen. I have seen people who have lost limbs by mowing the lawn. I have seen toes and parts of feet all over a lawn, because people are stupid. It is rare, but it happens
