i have barely kept my town for 1 day, and it has corrupted.
i have kept 21mil there, and now it is all wasted.

i just got chrissy too, which would of fitted fine with francine which was placed her plot down while i was plot resetting, but now i have to start all over again.

i suppose it's not that bad, but it took me ages to find skye's plot and now it's all gone.. i really should look at the screen when it's saving more.
my file has corrupted twice in the last 2 days, yesterday [luckily, nothing was really lost] and today.

has this like happened to anybody before, where they look away and accidentally turn off the 3DS while it's saving?

Wow your file has corrupted quite a few times. o: Have you thought about maybe buying a new game cartridge? That can be expensive though.

mine should be in perfect condition, i swapped game cartridges in december, and the old one was fine anyway. that means i've had the cartridge for about 4 months. i don't think thats the problem imo

It's not like the old DS systems where's it just a flick of a switch. You literally have to be holding the power button down for something like 5 seconds before that happens.


Sorry, but I cannot comprehend how this is even possible unless you just pay zero attention. Which if it is that, then that's just a recipe for disaster waiting to happen.

i wasn't saying it can always corrupt that way, like i was saying i was more concentrated on something else [my work], therefore i was not looking while i was pressing the power button.

just put the system into sleep mode if you're that preoccupied then

it'll run power down still, but far less so and is far better than potentially powering-down at the wrong moment

I always pay attention to what I'm doing. The only time I had issues with something not saving is when I dropped my DS and the game cartridge fell out, but I wasn't saving then. I lost some progress but there was no corruption or anything.

I've seen so many threads about people's games corrupting. I just don't understand how they keep doing it considering how I've never had any sort of problem. I've even done full system transfers and switched all my data to a bigger SD card. Nothing happened because I was paying attention.

I keep seeing these threads popping up, and it's worrying how many of these happen from people not paying attention. Sure, it was relatively minor this time, but people should really get into the habit of paying attention so they don't accidentally do something. One of these days you could end up corrupting something once you've put way more work into it, and that would really suck.

She has a point though. Everyone knows this game has a corruption issue. You shouldn't multitask while saving.

Anyways, sorry about your loss but since your town wasn't that old, like at all, you probably didn't lose anything you can quickly regain.

Well I'm pretty sure people who have lost 21mil and their town don't want that being said to them.

I used to do that a lot actually, like turn it off during the train station loading screen. This was before I knew that it could corrupt your file. I've done it "by accident" too while I was in a rush. I guess I've been lucky that mine never got corrupted Sorry about your save file though. That's my ultimate nightmare. :'(

MURPHY'S LAW PEOPLE D8 what can go wrong will go wrong. As soon as I see red it's like having poisoned pokemon, gotta run to a charger fast. Always keep volume near max when multitasking so you can hear alerts.

Just a few tips for others reading this thread to avoid accidental corruption via battery loss. It's worth the caution.

Are you always this pissy about people asking perfectly logical questions? Also, responding to 2 people's similar threads does not make for a "hobby" by any stretch of the word.

Though if I'm going to be blunt, people need to stop with the "my file corrupted" or "my villager moved out" threads when it was due to their own actions. Since rather they realize it or not, more often than not it just ends up being an undeserved cry for help. Which with how quickly some people are to help for free when this happens I'm honestly half-expecting someone to fabricate this happening to them at some point. (note, I'm not accusing anyone of doing or planning to do this. its just observational theory)

The thread was typically to ask a question, ''has this happened to you?'', it was unlikely anybody would have had it happen to them, but I was curious and that's the reason behind many of threads in this section.

This honestly goes for any game really. Even stuff like the Pokemon GTS duplication glitch which requires you to shut off while saving carries the risk of file corruption.

It's why games pretty much always say "Please don't touch the power button or reset." while its saving or something along those lines, or at least gives a warning message not to do that before gameplay even begins.
